Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Medical Surgical / Telemetry Registered Nurse to support a high-acuity complex care unit. This unit provides care for medical patients orthopedic overflow and long-term complex cases. The RN must be comfortable managing higher patient ratios floating within skillset and functioning in a fast-paced tertiary care environment.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver safe high-quality nursing care to MS/Tele patients with complex medical and orthopedic needs.
Manage telemetry monitoring and respond appropriately to cardiac rhythm changes.
Administer medications blood products and IV therapies per protocol.
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document care accurately in the EMR.
Utilize Rapid Response and Code Team protocols as needed.
Provide care for patients with pacemakers (temporary and permanent).
Manage central lines PICC lines peripheral IVs and perform phlebotomy as required.
Deliver respiratory support including HFNC oxygen devices and tracheostomy care.
Provide wound care including wound vac management.
Care for post-operative orthopedic and trauma patients including total joint replacements.
Float to other units within scope of practice as needed.
Support charge responsibilities as required.
Required Skills & Clinical Experience
Medical Surgical / Telemetry nursing
Telemetry monitoring (on-unit)
Rapid Response and Code Team participation
Pacemaker management (temporary and permanent)
Feeding tube care and management
Blood product administration
Central line and PICC line care/management
Peripheral IV insertion and maintenance
Phlebotomy
Heparin protocols
Orthopedic trauma and total joint replacements
Surgical drain management
Respiratory support: HFNC nasal cannula face masks portable oxygen
Tracheostomy care and management
Isolation precautions
Wound care and wound vac management
Qualifications
Active New York State RN license (must be in hand no exceptions)
Minimum 2 years of recent MS/Tele experience
Previous charge nurse experience required
Experience managing patient ratios of 1:6
Ability to safely manage 1:51:7 MedSurg patient ratios
BLS certification required
EPIC charting proficiency required
Must be willing to float within skillset
Weekend coverage required (every other weekend)
Local candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius
