POSITION OVERVIEW

The employee relations team helps cultivate a positive work environment for all employees and fosters a culture of mutual respect collaboration openness & accountability. The team efficiently and diligently manages and resolves workplace issues across the country and enforces a zero-tolerance policy for violence discrimination and harassment.

The Senior Advisor Employee Relations acts as subject matter expert with knowledge and skills in all aspects of employee relations. Combined with sound judgment excellent communication skills and an emphasis on a strong collaboration with internal partners the senior advisor manages and resolves employee relations situations by identifying root causes develop and recommend actions and countermeasures and effectively conclude investigation by reviewing and recommending conclusions and decisions with appropriate stakeholders.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • Helps build and implement best practice tools policies and trainings to improve employee relations matter and help cultivate a safe & positive work environment for all

  • Ensures best practice tools are consistently adopted sharing learning across the HR team and the business and liaises with internal partners as necessary.

  • Updates and completes periodic reporting for the bank to help drive awareness identify gaps and determine training needs.

  • Advises trains and coaches leaders employees and HRBP teams on all employee relations matters including but not limited to; general workplace conflict resolution situations policy and complaint resolution processes performance management disputes disciplinary measures terminations restructurings absence management and accommodations (as applicable).

  • Helps improves efficiency and alignment of HRBP teams; by handling certain employee relations matters directly and by providing clear and consistent guidance and solutions

  • Handles and resolves all complex (non-routine) employee relations matters in the workplace

  • Acts as designated recipient of all notices of occurrence related to discrimination harassment or violence and apply BDCs policies and procedures and participate in the resolution process.

  • Coordinates conducts and manages all steps in the negotiated resolution processes including evaluating the occurrences suggests resolution processes and effectively concludes the investigations with the appropriate stakeholders.

  • Coordinates and handles all communications and logistics for external investigations related to the complaints mentioned above. As well as be the primary source of advice for employees throughout the process.

  • Is responsible to resolve all other complaints or matters brought to the teams attention through the various disclosure channels. With systematic approach to address root causes develop and recommend actions and countermeasures and effectively conclude investigation by facilitating a review of the decision and recommendations with appropriate stakeholders.

  • Manages and handles matters requiring the interpretation and application of policies and procedures to resolve issues related to employee relations matters

  • Keeps up to date on upcoming laws and regulations helping business adjust policies practices and procedures accordingly with internal partners.

  • Ability to build and fosters solid partnerships and garner respect of internal and external partners as needed to efficiently resolve employee relations matters.

  • Guides discussions to enable partners to express concerns objectives and communicate the appropriate information relative to the situation

  • Ability to effectively communicate progress and results clearly and concisely to critical partners/stakeholders in a timely manner and engage and align others with process and drive execution.

  • Engage and influence partners and stakeholders to uphold and implement conclusions and recommendations of investigations.

Education And/or Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years in an HR generalist role or employee relations role or combined experience in human resources employee relations investigations combine with a completed university degree

  • Strong Knowledge of Canadian law & regulations for labor relations

  • Has internal knowledge of BDC policies procedures & guidelines that may impact employee relations matters.

  • Experience in managing and executing employee relations investigations and preparation of appropriate documentation.

  • Experience working and influencing different stakeholders

  • Travel may be required domestically as needed

  • Bilingual written and spoken (English & French)
