The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Groundskeeper.
General Description
Performs work involving the development and care of grounds shrubbery and plants and the performance of irrigation maintenance and repairs.
Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires three (3) months experience in landscape maintenance or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses Required
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Drivers License based on area of assignment.
Ability to secure and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification card (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and for the duration of employment.
Ability to secure and maintain a valid Seaport Business Purpose Credential for the duration of employment.
Preferences
Pesticide/Herbicide License
SCOPE OF WORK
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Mows grass; plants and transplants shrubs; fertilizes lawn and plants; trims bushes and trees; sprays lawns and shrubs to control insects diseases and pests.
Uses standard gardening tools in maintenance work; performs irrigation system maintenance and repairs; waters plants manually as required.
Operates power mowers trimmers sprayers chain saws and other tools; maintains equipment in good working condition.
Rakes and removes grass cuttings and leaves; sweeps adjacent streets and walkways; loads and unloads soil sand sod rock gravel and other ground covering materials as required.
Supervises the activities of subordinate workers assigned to assist in the performance of gardening and grounds keeping.
Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals and exposure to extreme heat and humidity.
