Job Summary

Position: Full-Time Lecturer ASLD (1 to 3-academic year(s) appointment renewable)
Effective Date: August 17 2026 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: The Full-Time Lecturer B (Academic Year) classification salary is $74652 to $158688 per academic year (paid as 12 monthly payments). The anticipated hiring range is$85008 to $90000 per year. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications andexperience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in the related areas of Sign Linguistics Sign Language Interpreting Translation Studies Deaf Studies Disability Studies or a similar discipline.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching
  • Demonstrated effectiveness with student engagement
  • Demonstrated fluency in ASL signing skills like a Native ASL signer or native-like
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population including low socioeconomic and first-generation students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. with specialization in Sign Linguistics Sign Language Interpreting Translation Studies Deaf Studies Disability Studies or a related discipline. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1 2026.
  • Demonstrated excellence in effective teaching of undergraduate students in Sign Language Interpreting and Deaf multicultural contents.
  • Demonstrated potential for research scholarly and creative activities focused on local national and/or global deaf sign languages and d/Deaf identities and cultures.
  • Ability to work well with existing linguistic and ASLD faculty members.
  • Demonstrated past collaboration(s) with local and/or national and/or global d/Deaf communities.
  • Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomicallysimilar tothe CSULB studentbody.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom.

Duties:

  • Teach any but not limited to of the following courses: ASL Linguistics Beginning Intermediate and Advanced Interpreting and Ethics courses Practicum (Interpreting) Exam Preparation ASL 1-4 levels ASL Literature and Poetry American Deaf Cultures Sign Language Sociolinguistics Critical Deaf and Disability Studies and/or Global Deaf Cultures and Languages. (Mode of instruction may include in-person hybrid online and/or any combination thereof.)
  • Teach any ASLD course in the language of ASL
  • Engage in appropriate departmental college university and community service
  • Work within the ASLD program with existing faculty to connect with and to build relationships with local national and/or global d/Deaf communities
  • Lead possible student research projects
  • Share possible responsibilities as a Faculty Advisor to consult students majoring or minoring in the ASLD program
  • Share possible responsibilities to lead a student organization affiliated to the ASLD program and to outreach in local D/deaf and signing communities
