Position Overview

Reporting to the Environment Team Leader Operations and working a 2 week on and 2 week off schedule at the Ekati mine site NT this is a seasonal position that assists with the sampling and monitoring programs at the Ekati Diamond Mine. The term is approximately May to August 2026. The position is primarily field work supporting sampling and monitoring programs for compliance fisheries and aquatics air quality and wildlife. Additional supporting office and laboratory work and equipment maintenance may be required. This is an exciting opportunity to obtain valuable work experience assisting with a diversity of environmental programs.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Review and follow relevant work instructions and participate in group job hazard analyses for sampling programs. Participate in safety meetings and complete Personal Safety Cards daily.
  • Assist full time staff and contractors with daily field work for seasonal sampling and monitoring programs.
  • Work with other summer students to complete assigned tasks as required such as stage-discharge measurements at hydrometric stations pump inspections water sampling wildlife monitoring air quality measurements.
  • Provide support with office and laboratory tasks (i.e. bottle preparation and shipping filing of field data sheets QA/QC checks process wildlife camera footage).
  • Assist with equipment preparation and maintenance (i.e. calibration of monitoring equipment review of gear checklists minor repairs to sampling devices).
  • Assist with remote field work; often under inclement weather conditions.
  • Be comfortable working out of a boat and traveling by helicopter.

Education/Experience

  • Applicants must currently be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution and returning to full time studies in the fall.
  • Your resume and/or cover letter should identify the following :
  • Your field and level of study and the number of years you have completed in your program.
  • Any relevant experience e.g. working outdoors water sampling operating motorboat driving a 4x4 vehicle etc.

Additional Information

The Company provides travel to and from the Ekati mine site out of Calgary Yellowknife and other northern fly points.
