Purpose

The BOZA Administrative Assistant 1 performs variousadministrative duties for the Board of Zoning Appeals (BOZA) including assistingappellants with applications preparing for monthly hearings and scanningdocuments.

Essential Functions

BOZA APPLICATIONS

  • Provide appellants with an appropriate checklist of application requirements based on the type of zoning appeal required.
  • Assist appellants with the submission of zoning appeal applications checking for completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide information about Board procedures timing and requirements.
  • Assemble and process application materials for special uses and variances.
  • Review denial letters for accuracy.

COMMUNICATION

  • Provide information to the public appellants alderpersons other departments and agencies.
  • Publish Board of Zoning Appeals hearings in Legistar.
  • Prepare for monthly BOZA hearings.
  • Notify petitioners and interested parties of the Board of Zoning Appeals hearings via mail.

Conditions of Employment

  • May be required to work beyond standard business hours on occasion.
  • Must be able to stand and walk and perform light physical work including exerting up to 10 pounds of force to lift and move objects.

Minimum Requirements

  1. One year of office support experience coordinating and working on a variety of complex clerical assignments related to the essential functions such as serving customers using computers to enter data and prepare documents and organizing files.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may beconsidered.

TECHNICAL

  • Knowledge of office procedures systems terminology and equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand work-related documents such as policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of standard software applications to create documents use spreadsheets and generate reports.
  • Ability to learn specialized computer applications to query databases and perform other job-related transactions.
  • Ability to read and apply State statutes and City ordinances.
  • Ability to perform accurate data entry.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

  • Knowledge of English writing mechanics and the ability to proofread documents and reports.

  • Ability to work effectively with supervisors and staff.

    Current Salary

    The current salary range (PR 6GN) is$44909 annuallyand the current resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residentsis$46705 will be made in accordancewith the provisions of the Salary Ordinance.

    THE SELECTION PROCESSwill be job related and willconsist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of education experienceand/or responses to supplemental questions; a written or performance test astructured interview or other assessment methods.
