Middle School Softball Coach

Position Title: Middle School Softball Coach
Location: Ogden Community School District

Position Summary

The Middle School Softball Coach is responsible for leading and developing a middle school softball program that emphasizes skill development teamwork sportsmanship and positive character. This position focuses on teaching fundamental softball skills while creating a safe inclusive and developmentally appropriate environment for student-athletes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Player Development

• Teach fundamental softball skills including throwing catching hitting base running fielding and basic strategy.
• Develop age-appropriate practice plans that focus on skill progression and player confidence.
• Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes effort respect accountability and sportsmanship.
• Encourage multi-sport participation and support overall student involvement in school activities.

Coaching & Game Management

• Organize and conduct practices and competitions in accordance with school and conference schedules.
• Supervise athletes during practices games travel and team events.
• Make fair and development-focused decisions regarding playing time.
• Communicate expectations clearly to players and parents.

Student-Athlete Support

• Promote academic responsibility and positive behavior in and out of season.
• Model appropriate conduct and professionalism at all times.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure a safe practice and competition environment.
• Follow all school district policies conference rules and IGHSAU guidelines.
• Enforce proper use of equipment and report any safety concerns.
• Maintain required certifications (e.g. concussion training CPR/First Aid background check).

Communication & Collaboration

• Communicate regularly with the Activities Director regarding schedules equipment needs and program updates.
• Work cooperatively with other coaches staff and volunteers.
• Support alignment with the high school softball program to promote long-term development.

Qualifications

• Valid Iowa Coaching Authorization/Endorsement
• Completion of the NFHS Concussion in Sports Training
