In this role you will work closely with nursing students inacceleratedand traditionalundergraduateprograms and will be assigned toteach experiential learning (clinical)across a variety of healthcaresettings andmayprovide hands-on instruction and guidance in classroomsandsimulated care environments. Depending onexpertise qualifications and program needs it isalsopossible to be assigned to teach in graduate programs such asDoctor of Nursing Practice or PhD.

As part of the UW-Madison Health Care Component (HCC) and your work at the School of Nursing you may have access to PHI (personal health information). All School faculty staff students volunteers and unpaid affiliates areto complete HIPAA training as part of their orientation.

Employment in this position is contingent upon the successful candidates ability to provide satisfactory documentation for various medical clearances and certifications as required by the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing and/or its affiliated clinical partners. Examples of required medical clearances and certifications include but are not limited to: RN license negative TB status COVID vaccination MMR varicella hepatitis B and others.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations.The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin CaregiverLaw andevery four years.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Teachprimarilyinbaccalaureate (accelerated traditional and AD to BSN completion)programs but qualified applicants may also be assigned to teach courses in the DNPor PhD programsbased on school/program needs.Teachin experiential courses (clinical) active learningclassroomsandsimulatedclinical learning environments using accepted course descriptions and courseobjectives. Assure students meet expectations for required clinical hours if assigned to teach clinical courses.

  • Utilize best pedagogical practices (e.g.active learning) to engage students in learning.

  • Collaborate with other faculty on curriculum course planning and assessment at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

  • Engage in other activities appropriate to a member of the School of Nursing academic community such as attending School meetingsparticipatingin faculty development activities and contributing to meeting the mission and vision of theSchool.

  • Contribute to the School of Nursing mission through service activities (e.g. governance committees outreach activities or project task groups).

  • Pursue areas of scholarly interest (e.g. evaluation studies to improve teaching and learning).

  • Collaborate with colleagues in practice settings through academic-practice partnerships to contribute to student learning practice improvement or community outreach.

  • Work to support and enhance the climate of excellence.

Compensation:

The minimum starting salary for this position is $100833. Actual salary will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications. This is an A-basis (12-month) position.

  • Three or more yearsof professional experience in ahealthcaresetting as a registered nurse (RN) advanced practice registered nurse (APRN)or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

Successful candidates willdemonstratea strong interest in and commitment to the teaching mission of the School of Nursing. Experience with clinical instruction active learningcompetency-basededucation simulation and inter-professional education is desirable.

Individuals with certification as advanced practice registered nurses clinical nurse specialists or as nurse educators are highly encouraged toapplyhowevercertification is not.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more yearsof experience in teaching at undergraduate or graduate levels in nursing or in professional staff development in a healthcare setting

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • RN - Registered Nurse Wisconsin State Licensure or eligible for licensure in Wisconsin

Preferred Licenses/Certifications:

  • Board Certified Nurse Educator (CNE)

Required Education:

  • Masters Degree in Nursing

Preferred Education:

  • Terminal Degree - Doctoral degree (Doctor of Nursing Practice PhD or other doctoral degree) or adegree at least one level above the level of instruction.

Appointments for candidates prepared at the doctoral level will typically be at the Clinical Assistant Professor rank depending on prior teaching experience.
