The Human Rights Clinic is part of Miami Law Schools dynamic clinical program in which law students work on cases and clinics are taught by faculty who are experts and trailblazers in their field. Under close faculty supervision students function as the lead lawyers responsible for all aspects of cases and projects. The Human Rights Clinic works for the promotion of social and economic justice globally and in the U.S. through litigation and advocacy at the local national regional and international levels.

TheHuman Rights Program provides a preeminent training ground for the study and practice of human rights law. The Program serves as the hub for a vibrant human rights community across the university connecting faculty students alumni advocates and community members and facilitating multidisciplinary collaboration.

The senior manager oversees the day-to-day management of the Human Rights Clinic and Human Rights Program within the law school and works to ensure the successful implementation of all educational initiatives such as student registration course management clinic projects and cases program events communications finances and web/social media development. Furthermore the senior manager serves as the liaison between faculty and the various administrative systems at the university. The manager works in a dynamic clinical space alongside law professors senior managers and support staff.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Students

  • Serves as main point of contact for students on administrative matters and is available to assist with inquiries.

  • Trains and supervises law students on office procedures and project/case management including Clio Box Shared Drives and clinic emails.

  • Provides day-to-day guidance and support to law student clinical interns on various issues related to project/case work.

  • Coordinates student recruitment and registration for the Human Rights Clinic.

Clinic Seminar Projects and Cases

  • Provides assistance and academic support to clinical faculty.

  • Helps to maintain and organize the filing systems for seminar classes and clinic projects/cases.

  • Manages the Human Rights Clinics electronic project/case management and online platforms including Clio Box WorkDay and Canvas.

  • Serves as a paralegal to the Human Rights Clinic as needed. This includes communicating with co-counsel legal partners clients; and assisting with court filings and legal documents.

Program Events & Visitors

  • Coordinates logistics for program events and activities liaising with the law schools events communications and AV teams.

  • Coordinates meetings with faculty students partners clients community stakeholders and guest speakers.

  • Manages all administrative aspects concerning visiting researchers in the Human Rights Program.

Communications

  • Updates the website and social media platforms.

  • Develops and maintains clinic and program listservs.

  • Supports program communications including newsletters and informational brochures.

Finances

  • Assists with managing the clinic and program budget by monitoring expenditures.

  • Processes program expenditures and coordinates with the law schools finance team. Checks verifies organizes and prepares grants procurement and other program relevant documents.

  • Assists with applications and accountability for external grants including coordination with the Office of Research Administration and law schools finance team; monitoring and reconciling expenditures and preparing supporting documents.

Other

  • Serves as a liaison between the Human Rights Clinic Human Rights Program and other law school/university departments. Works with other departments to increase program awareness.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

  • Maintains office space and supplies technological repairs IT/AV/Facilities requests and Canon service requests.

  • Serves as the point of contact for the UReady Emergency Clinical Plans (creation semester updates and meetings).

  • Identifies new needs and emerging issues and helps develop new initiatives and resources.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in relevant field required Masters Degree in relevant field preferred. This position is best suited for someone with a business/creative/technical background.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
