The Opportunity

This position works out of our Lake Forest IL location in the Diagnostics division.

We are seeking a seasoned Connectivity Architect to lead the design investigation and resolution of complex connectivity issues across our global portfolio of network-connected medical devices. This strategic role will bridge gaps between R&D Quality and Field Support teams ensuring robust connectivity solutions that enhance product reliability regulatory compliance and customer satisfaction.

This is a global role supporting all CMI products with travel to CMI sites and customer locations as needed for product investigations issue resolution troubleshooting and implementation of connectivity improvements.

What Youll Work On

Connectivity Strategy & Architecture

  • Design and implement scalable secure and resilient connectivity solutions across all CMI products globally.
  • Define architectural blueprints technology stacks and integration patterns for connected medical devices.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for QNX OS embedded systems and network protocols.
  • Ensure connectivity architecture aligns with enterprise strategy regulatory requirements (e.g. FDA GDPR HIPAA) and cybersecurity standards.

Global Investigation & Issue Resolution

  • Lead Tier 2/3 support for on-market devices experiencing connectivity issues.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for unresolved complaints involving product software
  • Travel to CMI sites and customer locations worldwide to perform hands-on investigations troubleshooting and solution implementation.
  • Collaborate with software hardware and field support teams to develop and deploy fixes or design changes.

System Integration & Interoperability

  • Design and validate system integrations with hospital networks cloud platforms and third-party systems (e.g. HL7 DICOM SCADA MES).
  • Ensure seamless communication between APIs databases services and user interfaces.
  • Identify and mitigate integration bottlenecks and risks early in the development lifecycle.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration

  • Act as a technical liaison between R&D Quality Assurance Regulatory and Field Support teams.
  • Translate business needs into technical requirements and ensure alignment across stakeholders.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance on connectivity best practices and architectural decisions.

Connectivity Lab Development & Testing

  • Lead the creation of a Connectivity/Software Test Lab to simulate real-world environments and network conditions.
  • Develop test protocols to proactively identify risks and validate software upgrades.
  • Support regulatory submissions and audits by ensuring robust connectivity documentation and traceability.

Governance Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure all connectivity solutions comply with internal policies security protocols and global regulatory standards.
  • Identify architectural risks and develop mitigation strategies for reliability scalability and data protection.
  • Maintain architectural documentation diagrams and specifications for internal and external stakeholders.

Performance Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Architect for performance availability and scalability from the ground up.
  • Monitor connectivity performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Capture lessons learned and contribute to internal knowledge bases and best practice repositories.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science Electrical Engineering Biomedical Engineering or related field.
  • 8 years of experience in connectivity architecture preferably in healthcare or regulated industries.
  • Experience in TCP/IP POCT communication network diagnostics and embedded systems.
  • Proven track record of resolving complex connectivity issues in global deployments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally for product investigations and customer support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with medical device connectivity standards (e.g. HL7 DICOM IEEE 11073).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and data privacy regulations (e.g. HIPAA GDPR).
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.
