About the Role
This is a specialist teaching position within an ASD Base attached to a mainstream primary school in Sutton. The provision supports pupils with Education Health and Care Plans who benefit from a structured calm and personalised learning environment while maintaining meaningful links to mainstream classes.
The role is focused on small-group and individualised teaching allowing you to prioritise consistency emotional regulation communication and confidence alongside academic learning.
What Your Day Will Look Like
Teaching a small number of pupils with autism in a calm predictable setting
Establishing clear routines that help pupils feel safe and ready to learn
Delivering personalised learning aligned to EHCP outcomes
Supporting pupils communication emotional regulation and independence
Adapting curriculum content to meet individual learning needs
Working closely with specialist teaching assistants to provide consistent support
Supporting pupils to access mainstream lessons or activities where appropriate
Recording progress and contributing to reviews and reports
The Provision
Purpose-built or clearly defined ASD base within a mainstream school
Small pupil numbers allowing for meaningful tailored support
Strong focus on inclusion structure and emotional wellbeing
Close collaboration with SEN leadership and external professionals
Clear systems routines and expectations for both pupils and staff
Who This Role Is For
This role would suit a teacher who:
Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Has experience supporting pupils with autism (specialist or mainstream)
Understands the importance of structure routine and flexibility
Can adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs
Values progress in communication confidence and independence
Remains calm patient and reflective in their practice
Is confident contributing to EHCP targets and review processes
Works well as part of a collaborative SEND team
Teachers currently working in ARP settings SEN schools or mainstream classrooms with a strong SEND focus are encouraged to apply.
