Summarized Purpose:
We are currently hiring for a Scientist within out client dedicated team in Stevenage.

The successful candidates will support ongoing laboratory research projects through hands-on experimental work contributing to sample preparation data generation and analysis across multiple platforms while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.

The Flow Cytometry/Immunology Support Scientist will support experimental workflows involving immune cell culture and downstream flow cytometry readouts including assay setup sample preparation instrument operation and downstream data analysis using FlowJo. This role will contribute to experimental design data interpretation and presentation of results.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform routine cell culture involving immune cells and complex co-culture systems.
  • Perform a variety of complex assay setups sample preparations and staining for downstream flow cytometry analysis.
  • Routine operation of flow cytometers (Cytoflex and Cytek Aurora) including instrument setup and sample acquisition.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records.
  • Ensures QA findings are addressed appropriately.
  • Problem solving either independently or with assistance pertaining to extraction and/or instrumentation problems.
  • Communicates project status to project leader.
  • Performs work assignments accurately and in a timely and safe manner according to Health as Safety procedures.
  • Reviews interprets and analyzes data using FlowJo.
  • Performs self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements prior to submission to QA and issuance to customers.

Education and Experience:

  • BSc (or equivalent) in Biological Sciences Biomedical Sciences Life Sciences Biotechnology or a closely related discipline.
  • MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification is desirable but not essential depending on experience.
  • Demonstrated practical laboratory experience in assay development and setup including the downstream preparation and staining of samples for flow cytometry analysis.
  • Strong conceptual understanding of flow cytometry (theory sample preparation acquisition) with hands-on experience in operating instrumentation and performing FlowJo analysis beneficial.
  • Formal training or certification in laboratory health & safety and good laboratory practice (GLP) is desirable.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • 2 years of experience in cell culture sample preparation for downstream processes (e.g. flow cytometry) and data acquisition.
  • Ability to perform routine laboratory tasks (media preparation reagent aliquoting) independently.
  • Demonstrated experience in assay setup and sample preparation for downstream immune cell analysis including flow cytometry staining and acquisition.
  • Background in immunology or cellular phenotyping is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in immune cell culture/PBMC isolation and staining samples for downstream flow cytometry analysis.
  • Experience in FlowJo for data analysis gating strategies and figure generation.
  • Experience with multicolor panels antibody titration and compensation desirable.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot experiments and interpret complex datasets.
  • Familiarity with SOPs lab documentation and health & safety compliance.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
