JOB DESCRIPTION

The Life Safety Systems Tech is responsible for the operation maintenance and installation of all District electronic Fire Security Master clock Signaling Intercom and other low voltage systems. They are also utilized for all Compliance and Safety protocols as they pertain to a school district. (i.e.: Confidence Testing Security Systems Fire and Life Safety Systems Elevators Hood Suppression etc.)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire if applicable.
  3. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  5. Must pass a basic skills test.
  6. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Applicant must possess a Washington State Limited Energy Electricians Certificate.
  2. Applicant must have a minimum of three (3) years full-time experience in the past five years as a journey level Systems Technician in facility construction maintenance and/or experience skill and ability may be substituted at the Kennewick School Districts discretion.
  3. Extensive hands on experience with limited energy systems.
  4. Demonstrate the high degree of skill and knowledge expected of a journey level trades worker in the responsibilities listed under the headings Essential Duties and Responsibilities General Requirements Physical Demands and Work Environment.
  5. Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Drivers License with a clear driving will be required to provide a current abstract of their driving record.
  6. Willingness to comply with district board policies and established programs.
  7. Evidence of ability to operate computers and a Computerized Maintenance Management System. (CMMS)
  8. Evidence of ability to be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
  9. The ability to assess and correct issues involving safety; read and interpret plans construction drawings and blueprints.
  10. Show a history of dependability and punctuality along with positive evaluations and recommendations.
  11. Evidence of ability to organize and prioritize in order to meet the districts needs and deadlines.
  12. Evidence of ability to determine the scope of work and materials needed and make cost estimates for projects.
  13. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful cooperative and effective relationship with fellow employees shop lead persons district staff and administrators.
  14. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner working toward the common goal of teamwork pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  15. Physically able to do the required work including: sustained lifting of more than 20 lbs. squatting bending stooping carrying climbing of ladders and other functions that are physically difficult and demanding.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  1. Experience working with the S-2 access control system.
  2. Experience working with Rauland manufactured components.
  3. Experience working with Exaqvision surveillance systems.
  4. Experience working with Simplex Gamewell and DMP panels.
  5. Experience working with the TCU series intercom systems.
  6. NICET II Fire Systems Certification

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform preventative maintenance cleaning adjusting repairing and/or rebuilding/restoring of all fire alarm security communication/intercom and camera systems.
  2. Route and/or connect low voltage cable and wire as needed/assigned to support portable security fire intercom systems.
  3. Route and/or connect computer networking wires and cables as required/assigned.
  4. Troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on all low voltage building components as required.
  5. Work with Building and Grounds manager vendors and other KSD staff as required to ensure required annual Compliance testing is performed and recorded.
  6. Work closely with and communicate with shop lead persons Facilities Staff the Buildings and Grounds Manager Principals and customers in the buildings and assorted vendors and contractors.
  7. Report problem areas and safety hazards in or on school facilities.
  8. Provide assistance to and/or coordinate with other employees and trades in order to accomplish the highest possible quality and quantity of work in the least amount of time without causing undue hardship for other craftsmen or shops.
  9. Submit finished work orders promptly; complete with all hours worked and related costs.
  10. Enter time and materials into electronic work order system.
  11. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality.
  12. Assist in the creation and implementation of a calendar-based preventative maintenance system.
  13. Generates work orders for preventative maintenance and other needed work.
  14. Performs other related jobs and duties as assigned.

  • Language Skills: Ability to read analyze and interpret business periodicals professional journals or technical manuals and procedures. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or individuals representing managers customers and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add subtract multiply and divide whole numbers fractions and decimal numbers. Ability to calculate percentages discounts proportions area circumference and volume.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in diagram form. Ability to interpret variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
