The laws and programs the Department administers affect every worker in the state. The Department is organized into three primary divisions which carry out the Departments principle regulatory enforcement and promotional programs and the administrative operations. The three primary divisions have divisions bureaus and offices under each which carry out the specific and specialized portions of the NCDOL mission. Employee will conduct in-service inspections and verify necessary calculations during the installation operation maintenance alteration and/or repair of boilers and pressure vessels and guides contractors and manufacturers for repairs. Provides information guidance and unofficial interpretation of adopted codes and standards; investigates accidents and incidents; provides written and electronic reports; provides audit services; schedules inspections audits repair activities and consultations. Employee will travel throughout North Carolina and overnights stays will be required.

This is a telework position. Candidates must reside in Iredell or adjacent county within 90 days of hire date.

A valid drivers license is required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Competencies:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to boilers and pressure vessels including the application fabrication and design of all types of boiler and pressure vessels.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure that boilers and pressure vessels meet the requirements of established codes and standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend complex technical data and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively communicate thoughts ideas and information orally and in writing.
  • This position requires considerable walking climbing bending stooping and twisting.
  • Preference will be given to candidates that possess the National Board In-Service Commission.
  • A valid drivers license is required.

Minimum Education and Experience

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school or a General Equivalent Development (GED) diploma; and four years of experience in the construction installation operation or maintenance of boilers and pressure vessels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Degrees must be from an appropriately accredited institution.

Necessary Special Qualifications Successful completion of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessels Inspectors In-Service Inspector Commission examination within the first 9 months of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
