We are looking for understanding and passionate young people to become peer mentors for young people who are facing challenges related to drugs or alcohol.
Responsibilities
We are looking for an enthusiastic young person aged 16-25 to volunteer with us as a Young Persons Peer Mentor.
Positive Futures offers support to young people who are facing challenges with drugs and alcohol. As a Peer Mentor you will be a positive and friendly role model for young people up to the age of 18 who are accessing our service.
Key activities include:
- Work 1-2-1 with a matched young person to support them to achieve their goals and to make plans for the future
- Give advice and information about drugs alcohol the associated risks and harm reduction
- Support young people to attend other services groups and fun activities (e.g. swimming football basketball etc.)
- Signpost the people we support to other services / groups
- Record the contact you have with young people in their case notes
- Provide end of care / check-in support to other young people
- Promote the service to young people and other professionals
- Raise concerns you are experiencing or that you have about others with staff as required (e.g. safeguarding)
Where: Gateshead at our office and within the community.
When: Volunteering will be done between 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and so you must have some availability during these times. We will work with you to be as flexible as possible so that you can fit volunteering around your other commitments. If you would like to discuss this before applying please email Daniel.
