Job Summary

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Elementary Dean of Students supports the principal and school staff in fostering a safe inclusive and productive learning environment through student behavior support instructional collaboration and family and community engagement in alignment with the districts vision of developing Washingtons most sought-after graduates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Provide support to instructional staff with a focus on social emotional learning behavior and attendance.
  2. Provide for individual needs of assigned students; communicate with teachers and other staff students needs based on proficiency levels and other data; communicate with teachers and other staff effective strategies to meet student needs.
  3. Cooperate with principal staff and community in implementation of comprehensive program support with a focus on supporting Tier II and Tier III plans for behavior and attendance.
  4. Plan coordinate and implement student services in conjunction with other building programs.
  5. Provide on-going assessment and monitor students for the purpose of providing feedback to students classroom instructors parents and administration regarding student progress expectations and goals by using quality building and district identified assessment tools.
  6. Lead building in maintaining a standard of student behavior needed to provide an orderly safe and productive learning environment.
  7. Provide for individual needs of students using community agencies when appropriate.
  8. Manage behavior plans of students and maintain appropriate balance of control and freedom to include positive reinforcement and accountability. Develop and implement individual behavior contracts and work collaboratively with the team to monitor and plans for growth.
  9. Perform the duties of the building administrator in the administrators absence.
  10. Evaluate classified staff.
  11. Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with grade level team members and other staff administrators parents/legal guardians support groups and community members.
  12. Collaborate with building and district-wide staff para-educators and volunteers for the purpose of providing an effective school program.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator.

Reports to the Building Principal

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with K-8 Elementary Education endorsement
  • Strong and well-balanced academic background with prior teaching experience.
  • Experience with dual language instruction.
  • Interest in pursuing administrative credential or current administrative credential preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Bilingual English/Spanish Required
  • Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
  • Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff students and patrons of the district.
  • Advocate for equity inclusion and professional practices that ensure all students achieve at high levels.
  • Knowledge of SEL practices and approaches.
  • Knowledge and skill in instructional principles methods and techniques.
  • Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students.
  • Working knowledge of agencies dealing with at-risk students.
  • Experience in dealing with best practices assessment scheduling and curriculum.
  • Skill in classroom management student discipline and developing positive techniques for improving student behavior.
  • Must possess a positive attitude about change and an eagerness to implement changes that will enhance student learning.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with a variety of students staff and community in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting.
  • Ability to participate collaboratively in teams.
  • Ability to continue participation in staff development to maintain professional skills.
  • Ability to serve as a role model and treat students as individuals in a professional manner.
  • Ability to effectively integrate technology resources into the curriculum.

Licenses/Special Requirements

  • Must maintain all licenses and certifications as a condition of continued employment.
  • Completed Employment Application/Background Check.
  • Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.

Walla Walla Public Schools Teachers Salary Schedule with 20 extended days Retirement SEBB Benefits Paid Sick Leave
