DescriptionThe Environmental Compliance & Lab Safety FWS Student Assistant supports the universitys environmental compliance and lab safety programs. TheFWS Student Assistant-Environmental Compliance and Lab Safetyreports to the Safety and Compliance Manager who falls under Environmental Health and Safety. Responsibilities include assisting with administrative tasks data management field data collection in labs and research related to wastewater drinking water stormwater and lab safety. The role helps maintain accurate environmental data coordinate compliance activities and support safe lab practices.
Responsibilities40% - Environmental Compliance & Lab Safety Support:
- Assist with environmental programs and sustainability initiatives.
- Support documentation and tracking of compliance activities.
- Help conduct fume hood inspections and compliance checks.
30% - Data & Operational Support:
- Collect organize and analyze safety and compliance data.
- Prepare reports spreadsheets and summaries using Excel and other tools.
- Assist with general office tasks such as filing scanning and record organization.
20% - System & Policy Administration:
- Provide support for EHS management systems.
- Assist with policy development and maintenance of safety procedures.
10% - Other Duties:
- Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives.
QualificationsMinimum Qualification:
- Current USF student with a Spring 2026 FWS (Federal Work Study) Award pursuing a degree in natural science or Public Health or a related field. You must upload a copy of your Spring 2026 FWS Award to be considered for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with office productivity tools including spreadsheets word processing and basic database systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable and able to work effectively within laboratory settings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the full Microsoft Office Suite
- Willingness to learn new systems processes and analytical methods
Additional Information for Applicants:
- $15 per hour for up to 15 hours per week flexible around class schedule within business hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday-Friday in-office attendance.
