Duties and Responsibilities

  1. *Serves as the Senior Information Technology (IT) Specialist at the UH Cancer Center IT office providing supervision technical advice for complex IT problems while overseeing daily IT tasks throughout the UH Cancer Center.
  2. *Performs moderately complex installations and troubleshoots installation/use of IT-supported applications TCP/IP using NinjaOne.
  3. *Manages and provides in-depth technical advice via Fresh Service HelpDesk ticketing system phone and email.
  4. *Organizes updates and reviews the Fresh Service HelpDesk ticket system and assigns appropriate tasks to IT Specialists and student workers while documenting problem resolutions.
  5. *Manages the day-to-day deployment connection operation maintenance and troubleshooting of Center computers software and other equipment.
  6. Evaluates modifies and maintains the HelpDesk Fresh Service ticket system. Manages the day-to-day administration of Google Workspace.
  7. *Coordinates with programming networking server and other HelpDesk staff to enhance update or correct system functionality.
  8. *Troubleshoots network connectivity problems for both direct network connections and remote connections.
  9. *Develops and maintains installation kits for Center-supported software for PC and Mac systems for distribution to faculty and Center staff. Includes the testing of software creating installation kits maintenance of software and kits.
  10. *Assists users in evaluating and selecting appropriate hardware and software for operational requirements or to address problem resolution. Also provides technological consulting on the implementation and application of selected solutions.
  11. *Develops implements and maintains IT policies and procedures for the Center to minimize the risk to systems and services provided. Monitors compliance of Center staff with established procedures.
  12. *Manages the inventory of Center technology equipment using inventory tracking and management software.
  13. *Manages daily assignments of lower-level IT Specialists and student workers and ensures high-quality output and timely completion.
  14. *Point of Contact for AV system in the Sullivan Center relating to maintenance and overall management of the systems.
  15. *Oversees and coordinates services provided by Center IT - Video conferencing remote meetings (Zoom) seminars poster printing.
  16. *Adapts written and printed documentation for electronic access and distribution such as web-based access via PDF files as well on Centers intranet.
  17. *Keeps current on emerging technologies and trends by reviewing articles in trade journals periodicals technical manuals newsletters both paper and electronic formats (e.g. web sites etc).
  18. *Attends classes conferences presentations and/or self-directed study methods.
  19. *Identifies technologies applicable to or of potential use to the Cancer Center; acquires knowledge of these technologies/systems and hardware/software in order to perform current duties and advise users on the application of identity technologies.
  20. *Partners with the Administrative Director for Administration and Fiscal to maintain the Center IT annual operating budget. Reviews hardware and software procurement and maintenance contracts. Coordinate with Center leadership and IT staff to develop and establish short- and long-term goals for the Centers technology plan.
  21. *Advises and works with university level IT staff regarding the Centers IT requirements and plans. Communicates IT needs and requirements between UH ITS and the Center.
  22. *Develops and experiments with new ideas techniques processes and applications to increase job productivity and effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Management Information Systems Computer Science or related field and 5 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for end-user technical support AV equipment of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower pay band in the University of Hawaii broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques across a broad range of technology (software and hardware) associated with microcomputers which include PC and Macintosh systems in a TCP/IP or related environment as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology systems hardware and software associated with the broad technology systems hardware and software associated with microcomputers which include PC and Macintosh systems in a TCP/IP or related environment and the application of Federal and State laws rules regulations and theories.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes and apply principles and practices to determine evaluate integrate and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
  7. If applicable for supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.

Supplemental Qualifications

  1. Considerable working knowledge of the applicability of information technology to a variety of situations and processes including personal computers Windows OS Mac OS and Unix server platforms and Internet services and requirements.
  2. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology systems hardware and software associated with LAN World Wide Web applications Internet Protocols Internet electronic messaging systems and protocols and database systems.
  3. Considerable working knowledge of the limitations capabilities uses for microcomputer software applications such as MS Office Adobe Products SAS SPSS EndNote and other commonly used office and educational software applications.
  4. Familiar with the administration and use of the IssueTrak Help Desk system or comparable application. Strong organization skills and the ability to quickly assess and prioritize work/issues.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Considerable working knowledge in administering a Windows local area network.
  2. Functional knowledge of enterprise-class database management systems (e.g. SQL server or Oracle) and the ability to install configure and administer a database management system.
  3. Familiar with the administration and use of the Fresh Service Help Desk system or comparable application.
