POSITION: Specialized Teacher: Intensive Behavioral Support/In School Restriction (ISR) Teacher (ONE YEAR ONLY)LOCATION: TMSREPORTS TO: Principal AP MTSS Coordinator and/or Director of Student ServicesSCHOOL YEAR: 2025/26GENERAL DUTIES: This is a multifaceted teaching position that will assist the Thompson Middle School team with themanagement of student behavior discipline and activities in all grades. To supervise In SchoolRestriction Classroom (ISR) and have grade appropriate standards based assignments available forstudents who may need extended curriculum work while in the ISR room. Additionally supportthe MTSS process by providing movement sensory or emotional breaks as designed by the MTSSteam and support Thompsons truancy initiative with direction from the :1. Bachelors or Masters Degree in Special Education with valid teacher certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education required.2. Dual certification in elementary education and/or content area AND special education preferred.3. Proven experience with students that struggle meeting behavioral and social emotional expectations in a public school setting.4. Coursework or professional development hours in social/emotional learning and working knowledge or experience in evidence based intervention practices.5. Evidence of teaching experience with children identified with social/emotional challenges preferably in a public school setting.6. Working knowledge and experience in MTSS systems PBIS or other school based positive intervention :1. Supervises all students who are assigned to in school suspension for not meeting the behavioral functional or social/emotional expectations of the building--POWER Matrix or PRIDE Matrix.2. Work with the administration to have in-school serve as an effective preventative disciplinary technique.3. Specialist for students placed in the ISR.4. Designed to provide de-escalation processing and restorative practice in order to return the student as quickly as possible to the least restrictive environment.5. Participates in the discipline process with School Administration including MTSS Director of Student Services Dean of Discipline BCBA and RBT.6. Assist with and develop data driven individualized interventions for all students struggling with social/emotional or behavioral difficulties.7. Establish high standards and expectations for all students to accept responsibility for behavior.8. Supervise students and consistently administer rules regarding student behavior during detention.9. Inform students of rules and expectations.10. Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom managing when appropriate multiple instructional activities simultaneously.11. Monitor the pacing of instruction and budget class time efficiently by providing clear directions outlining expectations and effectively bringing to closure instructional experiences.12. Communicate regularly with parents seeking their support and advice so as to create a cooperative relationship to support the child in the school.13. Plan and adjust the learning experiences accordingly requesting advice and assistance from administration when appropriate.14. Communicate regularly and work with the teachers and staff seeking their support to create a cooperative and restorative relationship with the child to facilitate the process of allowing the child to return to the classroom and/or the least restrictive environment.15. Assist or provide service delivery monitoring and following of Individualized Education Plans for selected students assigned to ISR.16. Work with the team to ensure the correct level of support is provided for children entering and exiting ISR.17. ISR may provide direct remedial instruction in academic subjects cognitive processing and appropriate social skills. This may include a blended learning approach for content delivery of instruction.18. Will assist in assisting general education classroom teachers with appropriate curricula and the development of behavior management interventions and programs.19. ISR teacher will be a member in the developing and implementing appropriate behavior plans providing direct support and instruction to meet the behavior goals when appropriate.20. The ISR teacher will follow the regulations associated with IDEA FAPE and procedural safeguards and IEP development and implementation if needed.21. Employ a variety of methods for students to demonstrate learning and accomplishments. Assume responsibility for all students within the school beyond those specifically assigned supervising in a fair and constructive manner to ensure the safety and well being of all students.22. Ensure the safety and health of all students notifying the administration of any unsafe conditions following established procedures.23. Work cooperatively with adults assigned to the classroom (e.g. paraprofessionals student teachers parents and volunteers) establishing clear expectations for roles and responsibilities.24. Maintain positive cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with the administration instructional staff students parents and representatives of resource agencies within the community.25. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.26. Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications as assigned by the Principal and assigned supervisor and not otherwise prohibited by law or in professional growth activities through staff development in services workshops and higher OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers Contract.
