Working in the Office of the Secretary (OSEC) means operating at the centre of the Departments most urgent and highimpact priorities where the pace is rapid and the work directly shapes outcomes for communities across NSW. OSEC supports Kiersten Fishburn Secretary of the Department of Planning Housing and Infrastructure to lead the states efforts to create vibrant and productive precincts manage public lands and assets and deliver more diverse and affordable housing. OSECs environment reflects the significance of this agenda dynamic demanding and meaningful.

The role

As a Policy and Program Officer your focus will be on keeping the departments strategic work moving by helping shape policy supporting projects and ensuring governance processes stay on track. Youll also play a key role in strategic advisory distilling complex information identifying emerging issues and providing clear actionable advice to support executive decision-making. Part of this role involves coordinating the Executive Leadership Committee by managing agendas minutes briefings and the flow of information so leaders have what they need to make informed timely decisions. You will be someone who understands policy issues can analyse risks and opportunities and works confidently with stakeholders across the department to develop practical evidencebased solutions.

This role will challenge you to be adaptable in a fastchanging environment quickly making sense of new information and balancing competing priorities. Youll build strong relationships to support wholeofdepartment solutions anticipate stakeholder needs and identify risks early so strategic initiatives continue to progress smoothly. You will also contribute directly to key departmental programs including supporting the delivery of DPHI Leaders for Senior Executive and coordinating elements of the departmentwide Innovation Program. This role underpins the teams broader work combining secretariat responsibilities with handson policy program and project support to help deliver the departments priorities.

What you will bring to the role

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written to effectively convey ideas and collaborate with team members.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to navigate complex challenges and adapt to evolving situations.
  • High level administrative skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and competing demands.
  • Outstanding stakeholder engagement skills fostering strong relationships and ensuring alignment with diverse stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
  • Ability to synthesise complex information quickly and translate it into clear actionable advice to support executive decision-making.
  • Confidence in coordinating governance processes and committee workflows ensuring accuracy timeliness and smooth endtoend delivery.
  • Skilled in balancing strategic priorities with operational demands maintaining momentum across multiple policy project and secretariat activities.
