SUMMARY

Lubricates the moving parts of vehicles and performs oil changes and brake work on vehicles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Drains oil from crankcase and refills with required amount of oil.
  • Replaces oil and air filters.
  • Inspects vehicle fluid levels replaces or replenishes as necessary.
  • Checks tire pressure and adds air if needed.
  • Lubricates moving parts with specified lubricants.
  • Injects grease into units such as springs universal joints and steering knuckles using hands or compressed-air powered grease gun.
  • Adds water to radiator and battery.
  • Raises vehicle axle.
  • Removes wheels.
  • Replaces defective brake shoe units or attaches new linings to brake shoes.
  • Measures brake drum to determine amount of wear.
  • Inserts vacuum gauge into power-brake cylinder starts engine and reads gauge to detect brake-line leaks.
  • Repairs or replaces leaky brake cylinders.
  • Repairs or replaces defective air compressor in air brake systems.
  • Fills master brake cylinder with brake fluid.
  • Replaces wheel on axle and adjusts drum shoe clearance.
  • Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed if work outlined is not needed or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
  • Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
  • Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
  • Documents all work performed on the repair order.
  • Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs as assigned by service manager.
  • Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Ensures that customers cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
  • Keeps shop area neat and clean.
  • Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.
  • Understands keeps abreast of and complies with federal state and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal OSHA Right-to-Know etc.
  • Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
  • Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
  • Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
  • Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One to three months related experience and/or training

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement volume and distance. Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form.
