Job Summary

Scope of Position:

To lead and manage a Customs brokerage department within a branch so that the department has

strong technical expertise flawless operational execution strong infrastructure strong and

knowledgeable personnel strong customs compliance efficiency profitability and continual

growth.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Administration and Personnel Management

Manage and monitor service execution within the Customs brokerage department

Help manage capacity and resource needs for the department

Ensure that department is properly staffed structured and organized

Manage timely and effective staff evaluations and reviews

Provide feedback coaching mentoring to staff on an ongoing basis

Manage staff for continual growth in skills and expertise

Prepare and execute personal goals

Assist staff in preparing personal goals

Make certain that all staff members complete annual training in required

timeframes

Make certain that new employees receive all mandatory training in required

timeframes

Maintain highest compliance levels for all necessary and applicable Customs and

other government agency controls and requirements

Ensure that company controls policies procedures processes applications

tools and systems are understood and implemented

Ensure oversight including self-assessments and monitoring so that issues are

resolved at the root cause level

Help prepare and execute department business plan and goals.

Operations Compliance and Customs Expertise

Provide deskside training to department as needed in these specific areas:

o Expeditors customs policies controls procedures and processes

o Operational and customer service execution

o Customer communication interaction development and maintenance

o Expeditors applications tools systems and their usage

o Client specific requirements


Qualifications :

  • At least 3 years of Customs/FTZ Brokerage Experience with Expeditors Internal System
  • At least 1-2 years of lead/supervisory experience
  • Well-rounded knowledge of the HTSUS
  • Well-rounded knowledge of the Title 19 of the Code of Federal Regulations
  • Well-rounded knowledge of the Foreign-Trade Zones Manual
  • Knowledge and experience with Participating Government Agencies
  • The ability to troubleshoot and solve problems quickly and effectively
  • Strong Management Skills
  • Must be able to commute to the Pullman/El Paso Facility
  • High School Degree or equivalent required
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must have the ability to work overtime and/or weekends in support of the department needs
  • Fluent in English and Spanish both written and verbal
  • Good computer skills (Word Excel and familiarity with PowerPoint)
  • Comfortable with numbers and basic mathematical skills
  • Familiarity with 10-key usage
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize throughout the workday while remaining focused and organized
  • Demonstrated ability to be pro-active in thought and action
  • Strong organizational Skills
  • Analytical with a strong attention to detail
  • Effective interpersonal skills including proven ability to listen comprehend effectively communicate clearly and concisely to obtain positive results
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Willing to pitch in and help on last minute projects or assist team members
  • Excellent written verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Has a demonstrated strong work ethic and reliability
  • Comfortable working in a professional business environment
  • Proven ability and desire to learn new software and technologies
  • Knowledge of Expeditors Internal System Preferred
  • Undergraduate Degree Preferred
  • Customs Brokerage License or Actively pursuing and taking the exam
