About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking an experienced Regulatory Approvals Specialist to join our Calgary based Regulatory team. This group plays an essential role in preparing high-quality applications to secure timely approvals that enable responsible development and support Cenovuss corporate strategy across our Western Canadian asset base.

In this senior role you will collaborate closely with project teams technical specialists and regulatory agencies to prepare submit and steward regulatory applications - primarily for Alberta oil sands assets with opportunities to support thermal conventional heavy oil midstream and downstream operations as needed. This position is ideal for a knowledgeable regulatory professional who excels in navigating complex approval pathways proactively managing risks and building collaborative relationships both internally and externally.

What youll do:

  • Lead regulatory applications & approvals: Work with project teams to prepare coordinate and submit complex regulatory applications and amendments. Support applications for new development sustaining/expansion activities disposal/reinjection re-development/re-drill programs subsurface changes facility modifications etc. Ensure applications align with regulatory expectations and corporate requirements drawing on extensive experience with provincial/federal regulators. Proactively identify and mitigate risks to approval timelines providing clear communication to leadership and project teams.

  • Build strong relationships: Represent Cenovus in meetings with key regulators. Build and maintain productive solution-oriented relationships based on trust transparency and technical credibility. Provide guidance on regulatory pathways and options current regulator expectations and evolving policy requirements where required.

  • Collaborate across teams: Work closely with project engineers environmental specialists asset teams legal engagement and other internal stakeholders to ensure regulatory submissions are complete and accurate. Support internal planning by developing regulatory schedules identifying critical path elements and advising on regulatory risks or constraints to ensure alignment on asset and regulatory timelines. Deliver mentorship and regulatory guidance within the Regulatory team. Use experience and expertise to review complex and evolving regulations and support the preparation of documentation for senior leadership outlining implications and recommended approaches.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Bachelors degree in engineering environmental sciences or related discipline.

  • 15 years of demonstrated experience preparing regulatory applications for oil and gas development with a significant portion focused on Alberta oil sands. Experience preparing applications related to subsurface development is required. Experience in other provinces would be a strong asset.

  • Direct experience engaging with provincial and federal regulators.

  • Track record of working with crossfunctional stakeholders to advance regulatory strategies for largescale oil sands facilities.

  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing evolving regulations and providing clear summary documents that outline risks implications and recommended approaches suitable for project teams and senior leadership.

  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate effectively as part of a highperforming fastpaced regulatory team.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage concurrent deliverables while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
