Job Summary

The Role

The Compliance Team works to protect Square and its customers while enabling safe growth across our ecosystems. Square Australias Compliance Team is seeking a Deputy Chief Compliance Officer & Compliance Management System Manager (DCO)to play a key role in operating and strengthening the compliance framework across the business.

Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer Australia you will operate as a senior individual contributor with significant autonomy and influence. You will be responsible for the effectiveness and ongoing maturity of Square Australias Compliance Management System ensuring it supports regulatory obligations business priorities and Squares risk appetite.

This role is well suited to an experienced compliance professional who can work independently exercise sound judgement and influence senior stakeholders across the organisation. While this is not a people-management role you will be expected to lead through expertise strong partnerships and delivery.

This role is fully remote based in Australia only.

You Will

Compliance Management System Ownership

  • Own and operate Square Australias Compliance Management System ensuring it remains effective scalable and aligned with regulatory expectations and business needs.
  • Design implement and enhance compliance frameworks covering obligations management risk assessment monitoring training programs issue management and reporting.
  • Act as Deputy to the Chief Compliance Officer providing senior-level advice support and coverage across compliance matters as required.

Risk Assessment & Regulatory Change

  • Coordinate and where appropriate lead compliance risk assessments and maturity reviews identifying gaps and driving pragmatic remediation and uplift initiatives.
  • Manage regulatory change processes ensuring new and changing obligations are identified assessed and embedded into business operations.
  • Provide risk-based advice and credible challenges to the business influencing decision-making through expertise rather than authority.

Regulatory Engagement & Reporting

  • Prepare high-quality compliance reporting for senior leadership governance forums and regulators.
  • Support regulatory engagement activities including preparation of materials and responses to regulatory requests.
  • Contribute to maintaining constructive and transparent relationships with regulators.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Partner closely with Legal Risk Product Operations Customer Experience and Technology teams to embed compliance into day-to-day business practices and decision-making.
  • Play an active role in compliance and risk governance forums including coordinating inputs preparing papers and reporting managing meeting cadence and supporting effective decision-making outcomes.
  • Support the operation and continuous improvement of compliance governance processes ensuring issues risks and remediation activities are tracked reported and escalated appropriately.
  • Act as a trusted escalation point within the compliance team supporting consistent judgement high-quality outcomes and sound decision-making.
  • Mentor and support other compliance professionals contributing to capability uplift consistency and maturity across the team.
  • Empower business and compliance teams by providing clear practical guidance and support enabling them to improve capability manage risk effectively and achieve positive and sustainable compliance outcomes.

You Have

  • Significant experience in compliance roles within financial services payments fintech or regulated technology environments.
  • Strong understanding of Australian regulatory frameworks including AFSL obligations consumer protection and conduct risk.
  • Demonstrated experience designing operating or uplifting Compliance Management Systems.
  • Proven ability to operate as a senior individual contributor influencing outcomes across the business without direct authority.
  • Experience leading compliance risk assessments obligations management monitoring programs and issue remediation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex regulatory information in a clear and practical manner.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced evolving environments and navigating ambiguity with sound judgement.
  • A collaborative pragmatic approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
