Description of Work
We are currently recruiting for a full time Sewing Machine Operator at Central Regional Hospital. This position will be located in our Environmental Services Department and will be responsible for sewing altering and mending operations in the construction and maintenance of hospital linens and wearing apparel and assisting in the operation and management of a linen room. Work is performed in accordance with instructions or patterns selected by the supervisor. Work may also involve instruction of personnel in performance of routine sewing tasks and working in the apparel shop. Work is evaluated by inspection of finished product to assure conformance to instructions and maintenance of established standards of work quality.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
Working knowledge of textiles and of sewing and mending methods.
Skill in the operation of electric and treadle sewing machines.
Ability to cut material from standard patterns and to neatly construct repair and mend linens and articles of clothing.
Ability to instruct personnel in routine sewing and mending methods.
Ability to clean oil and make minor adjustments to sewing machines.
The normal work hours for this position are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday with rotating weekends and holidays however flexibility is required to meet hospital needs. This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package including health insurance and retirement.

Minimum Education and Experience

Education and/or experience in sewing that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade equivalent to a least six months of experience in a commercial or institution sewing
or completion of a sewing course;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
