What You Will Do

  • Oversee the scheduling and participate as a trainer of daytime workshops and evening classes for water supply operators throughout the state and develop training materials for these workshops. The training assists operators in their jobs as well as in obtaining Illinois EPA certification or upgrading certifications. Coordinate with IEPA to schedule certification exams following classes. Class also provides continuing education. Operator certification and education helps public water supplies comply with state and federal regulations and contributes to the production of safe drinking water for citizens of Illinois.
  • Write updated certification exam questions and facilitate the annual meeting of the Illinois Public Water Supply Certification Review Committee where the new questions are validated
  • Primary drinking water treatment instructor for the Water Quality Control Operations Program. Develop teaching materials and hands on exercises. Set up internships and assist with job searches for the students. Coordinate with IEPA and MODNR to schedule certification exams for the class. Evaluate the students work in the classroom pilot plant and drinking water lab.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Illinois Class A Public Water Supply Operator Certification (or equivalent certification)
Able to obtain a Illinois Cross-Connection Control Device Inspector license

Preferred Qualifications


Experience in operation of Class A water treatment facilities
