Job Summary

University College Academic Peer Advisors (APAs) assist students with developing academic plans and connecting them with campus resources through professional advice and personal experience.

Peer Advisors have the following job responsibilities:
Assist the University College Advising office with answering phone calls checking-in students in the reception area scheduling appointments for advising staff and providing timely and accurate information to appropriate University offices

Assist full-time professional advisors in helping students (primarily in their first year) successfully transition academically at Illinois State University

Assist in the delivery of University College programs and services which may include public presentations

Acquire a general knowledge of University programs services and policies including all applicable academic deadlines

Dates of employment:
August 13 2026-May 7 2027 (May include University breaks)
Optional summer availability from May 18-August 12 2026 (Dependent on office needs for Preview 2026)

Pay Rate

$15.00/hour

Required Qualifications

Current undergraduate students only
Minimum GPA: 2.75
Minimum 1-year commitment
Available for mandatory pre-semester training on August 13 2026 & August 14 2026.
Available for mandatory weekly training throughout each semester on Thursdays from 8:00am - 8:50am

Work Hours

8:00am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday

This position is subject to a criminal background investigation and if applicable an employment history review based on University Policy 3.1.30 and any offer of employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation and/or an employment history review. Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held.

International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work more when the university is not in session.
