DescriptionDNV Maritime Region Americas is seeking a Junior Surveyor to join our West Coast operations in Vancouver BC. As a Junior Surveyor for the West Coast you will be member of a highly qualified team of surveyors and auditors serving the more traditional shipping segments calling ports along the British Columbia Coast and performing equipment certification at manufacturer locations in British Columbia and Alberta.
What Youll Do:
- Ensure that the work or duties performed are in accordance with the Rules Regulations Instructions Guidelines and quality requirements of the organization and the instructions of the line management.
- Maintain the confidentiality of Clients business processes designs developments and documentation always. Communicate to line management at the earliest appropriate opportunity if in receipt of information that is important to the reputation or integrity of the organization.
- Exhibit customer-oriented focus through promoting DNV onboard or on-site and by acting as a technical resource for customer questions.
Junior Surveyor Responsibilities
Inspection and certification of ships during construction at local shipyard (may include Victoria later on)
Survey ocean-going ships that call at ports along the Western seaboard in Canada and at sea (Vancouver Island ports Prince Rupert Squamish etc. at anchorages last minute / urgent requests may be at night or weekends.
Survey ships for compliance with international standards DNV Classification Rules and Statutory requirements
Inspection and certification of materials and equipment at facilities in British Columbia and Alberta.

DNV provides a reasonable compensation range for this role. The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set level of experience and specific location. For the city of Vancouver the range of starting pay for this role is $80000 - $95000 CAD
QualificationsWhat is Required:
- Bachelors Degree or higher in Naval Architecture or a Marine or Mechanical Engineering Degree and/or equivalent maritime qualifications.
- Maritime Industry experience (especially exposure to classification / statutory surveys or seagoing experience) is a plus. Required training will be provided
- Behavioral Competencies - Team Player able to work independently on surveys.
- Travel Requirement: 25% per calendar year Domestic/International
- Must possess a valid drivers license and be able to rent and drive a car and travel on public conveyances when required
- Physical abilities necessary to perform regular functions of the job: Climbing pilot ladders & tanks flying flying in helicopter crew boat launches voyage surveys working in factory / industrial settings etc.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- We conduct a pre-employment background check
