Job Summary

TheSenior Design Manager (Mechanical)isa pivotal subjectmatterexpert (SME) role leading themechanical discipline within the wider QTS European Development Group. This role will manage pre-construction and construction activities for select campus and development projects.Throughout the pre-construction and construction Wycliffe this role will engage daily with internal design managers external consultants contractors commissioning agents vendors and DataCenterOperations.

The position will also act as a liaison both internally and externally for those other consultancy services outside of design toinclude butnot be limited to: Project Managers; Cost & Schedule Consultants; Local Authority Officers; andHyperscaleCustomers where.

ManagesubordinateDesign Managersas well askey projects on a campus(es) andmaintainupdated budgets schedules and status reports foreach;
Theselectionand management of AE consultants within proposed and ongoingprojects;
Create and communicate design updates on development program & project status monthlysuitable for executive level reviewspresentinginformation in a manner to support efficient decisionmaking;
Work with QTS stakeholdersdesignand construction teams to create a master development design program for site(s) including a complete campus designsolution;
Manage design input intoplanningandpermittingneeds for each assignedcampus/individualproject(s);
Implement and manage design input on multi-phased site development plans to achieve time budget and quality standards in a predictablefashion;
Continuously update a campus master planandassistwith the update of QTSs European Freedom and any other designstandards;
Write scopes of work for designdesign supportthroughoutconstructionandcommissioning &participatein procurement and project costestimates;
Review of the Basis of Design (BoD) andsubsequentRIBA stage project document issues ensuring design compliance to QTSs European Freedomstandards;
Coordination of page-turn reviews withsubsequentinput/incorporation of internal stakeholder comments and alignment of Project Teams input into the QTS design gatingprocess;
Work closely withthestrategic procurement team on equipment procurement and deliveryprocess;
Engage with the Project Management and Quantity Surveyor teams both internal and external to ensure full visibility via the design change order process assessing potentialimpactingagainst the approved project budget (BTT);
Project technical submittalsandnsurethese are closed out by the Project Teamin a timely manner providing point of contact for escalation and/or clarification for the ProjectTeam;
Establish project design schedules and manage design teams toensureon-timecompletion;
Reviewthe production and content of designchange order requests fromboth consultants andcontractors;
Collaborate with Sales/SolutionsEngineers and Product teams to aid in custom deal solutioning for prospective clients within the applicable schedule and budgetconstraintsfor anyparticularlocation;
Establish andmaintainrelationships serving as liaison with key QTSstakeholders;
Create & build relationships that enhance QTSs ability to be a leader in creating the WorldsMost Valuable DataCenterReal Estate;
Prioritise critical issues in high-volume communications ensuring cost risk schedule and quality pressures areaddressed.
Reviewall mechanical deliverables for technical contentqualityand adherence to code/standardisationrequirements;

Conductmechanical development reviews to ensure all projects adhere to QTSsmechanical specification and standards.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in science or engineering or equivalent professionalexperience;
Either mechanical DC or highly serviced/critical engineering design experience.
A minimum of 3 to 7 years experience of hyperscale sized mission critical building facilities delivery ideally in a multi-disciplinary design environment
Experience with Bluebeam Revit BIM 360 ACC the Microsoft Office suite of programmes and an ability to communicate program updates to executive level

Preferred Qualifications:

MBAMasters inEngineering Management orarelatedEngineeringfieldisdesirablebut notessential;
Professional registration as a Chartered Mechanical Engineer is again preferred albeit not essential.
Broad understanding of adjacent disciplines - CSA MEPH ICT
Experience interfacing directly with Hyperscale customers
Prior experience working with local authorities or regulatory bodies

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

Substantial mechanical design engineering technicalexpertise
Experience within a critical engineering design consultancy
High levelof construction management experience
Ability to manage delivery of complex technical deliverables
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
Familiar with full project life cycle from: due diligence; planning; design; permitting; construction and commissioning toIST;
Extensive design management experience and familiarity of multi-disciplinary subject matters to cover the key technical areas relevant to the data centre industry inclusive of all CSA MEPH and ICT biased designdisciplines;
Familiarity of gating processes/change control within an Owner Operator Developmentorganisation;
An ability to travel within both Europe and the US which could be up to 25% of the time.
