Job Summary

Job Title: Backend Engineer (Python)

Location: Portugal

Work Regime: Full-time & Remote (must reside in Portugal)

Overview / Summary:

We are seeking a Python Backend Engineer to join a high-impact AI-focused project. The role involves building and scaling production-grade backend services with a strong emphasis on cloud-native architectures and AI platform integrations. The project will be delivered by a team of six engineers working collaboratively to design implement and optimise robust backend solutions.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

Design develop and maintain backend services using Python for production environments
Design develop and maintain backend services using Python for production environments
Develop and deploy cloud-native solutions using AWS services such as Lambda EC2 and S3
Integrate AI and foundation model services using platforms such as AWS Bedrock Google Vertex or Microsoft AI Foundry
Analyse and optimise application performance through profiling debugging and refactoring
Collaborate closely with other engineers and stakeholders to deliver scalable and reliable solutions
Contribute to architectural decisions code quality standards and best practices across the team

Requirements

Mandatory Requirements:

5 years of experience in Backend Development with Python and experience building and operating production applications
Experience with AWS services including Lambda EC2 S3 and their APIs
Proven expertise in designing building and consuming GraphQL APIs
Strong background in performance optimisation using Python profiling debugging and refactoring tools
Experience with AI platform APIs (AWS Bedrock Google Vertex Microsoft AI Foundry or similar)
Knowledge of prompt engineering and experience with frameworks such as LangChain LlamaIndex Haystack or other RAG solutions is a plus
