Postdoctoral Research Scholar in Marine Active Acoustics
The University of Delaware (UD) School of Marine Science and Policy invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar position in marine active acoustics. The successful candidate will work on continuous wave and multifrequency analysis of a Kongsberg WBTmini deployed on a Slocum glider. The purpose of these deployments is to explore the relationship between acoustic backscatter optical backscatter and optical imaging with a focus on data collected with in-situ AUV systems and airborne water-penetrating LiDAR systems. Specifically the postdoc will partner with both biological oceanographers (Matthew Oliver Jon Cohen) from the University of Delaware and optical oceanographers from NASA Langley. The postdoctoral scholar will make use of state-of-the-art visualization and computing facilities in Matthew Olivers Ocean Exploration Remote Sensing and Biogeography Lab and Robotic Discovery Lab. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in acoustics or oceanography with demonstrated strengths in large data analysis multivariate statics acoustic theory and ocean science. Experience with Echoview software is encouraged. The position will be primarily located on the Sharp Campus of the University of Delaware in Lewes Delaware however they will also spend significant time at NASA Langley in Hampton VA. The postdoc will also participate in associated field efforts which include robotic deployments in the Mid-Atlantic region. The candidate is also expected to lead first-authored publications. The appointment will be for one year with continuation pending performance and funding for up to a total of three years.
