The Court of Appeals of Virginia is seeking applications for a full-time Administrative Staff Attorney. This role works directly with the Chief Judge on special projects for the Court and Judges Chambers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Administrative Staff Attorney reports to the Chief Judge and is responsible as directed and assigned by the Chief Judge for tracking cases monitoring trending legal issues and high-profile matters filed with the Court and compiling data concerning the Courts dockets. The Administrative Staff Attorney will help track statistics for the Courts Annual Report to the General addition the Administrative Staff Attorney as directed by the Chief Judge will assist the Staff Attorney for Special Projects with research and drafting for judges Chambers when needed because of temporary staffing constraints. This may include onboarding new judges and preparing bench memos and draft opinions as appropriate. The Administrative Staff Attorney will generally provide support services for Court-related special projects as assigned by the Chief Judge.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful applicant will be an individual interested in a long-term professional opportunity who is a member of the Virginia State Bar and has a minimum of four years experience working with an appellate court or circuit court. Knowledge of appellate court rules and procedures outstanding analytical skills the demonstrated ability to evaluate and synthesize a large volume of information and excellent written and oral communication skills is required. The successful applicant must be dependable discreet able to multitask and possess strong attention to detail. Applicants also must demonstrate competence with computer-based case tracking legal research and word processing systems.
