JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Jefferson County seeks a Paralegal for the Human Services Litigation Team of the CountyAttorneys Office. This team provides legal representation and advice concerning childabuse and/or neglect investigations dependency or neglect proceedings juveniledelinquency matters adult protection investigations and proceedings mental healthcases drug and alcohol commitments publicassistanceapplications and appeals liquorlicense violation prosecutions civil collections child support services records requestsand subpoenas.


Under minimal supervision this employee performs litigation paralegal work to supportactivities of the County Attorneys Office Human Services group. This position will befocused primarily on preparingreviewingand organizing documents for electronicdiscovery. The ideal candidate must have strong interpersonal skills excellent editingskills be legal-minded relentlessly detail-oriented and be a team player. The candidate must also have the proven ability to take the initiative move between diverse tasks withease and must thrive in a high-energy collegial environment.


SCHEDULE:
This position has the potential tooperateon a four-day 40-hour work week (Monday-Thursday) or a standard work week (Monday-Friday). This position also offers theopportunity for remote work on some days of the week.


COMPENSATION:
Target Hiring Range: $32.00-$38.00 USD Hourly
Compensation will bedeterminedbased on educationexperienceand skills as well asEqual Work for Equal Pay and budgetary considerations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
This position involves assisting attorneys in all aspects of legal work and may include:

  • Preparing legal files for court hearings
  • Direct contact with the public caseworkers therapists opposing attorneys pro-separents and the Court
  • Filing time sensitive documents
  • Assisting with trial preparation
  • Preparing correspondence and a variety of legal documents
  • Electronic filing of state court documents
  • Drafting routine pleadings in state court
  • Preparing reviewing and organizing documents for electronic discovery
  • Redacting numbering and compiling files
  • Drafting privilege logs
  • Performing a variety of clerical functions to relieve attorneys of day-to-dayadministrative functions of the office
  • Other duties as assigned


Duties assigned may vary according to specific needs of the office or the allocation of theworkload.


This employeeis responsible forutilizingcomputerized data entry equipment to draft legaldocumentsestablishingand maintaining electronic filing systems tracking the progress ofcases and answering inquiriespertaining tocases. Software usage includes Time Matters HotDocs Microsoft OfficeSuiteand Adobe Pro.

This employee has direct contact with County departments and outside parties so you musthave strong interpersonal skills. The position requiresstrong communicationskills bothverbal and written and the ability to work as a team as well as work independently to completetasks efficiently and accurately.


This employee must be able to multitask in a cubicle environment under deadline pressure.We are looking for someone with a positive can-do attitude who will take ownership of andpride in their work and be willing to help troubleshoot problems of any size.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:A minimum of one year of related work experience or any equivalentcombination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis. HumanServices casework is considered relevant experience.

Education: Associates Degree
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Paralegal certificate or associate degree and 3 years of related
    work experience preferred or any equivalent combination of education and experienceon a year-for-year basis. Human Services casework is considered relevant experience.

Preferred KnowledgeSkillsand Abilities:

  • Prior experience working in a law office or legal department.

  • Familiarity with the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure and experience with
    electronic discovery and electronic court filing preferred.

  • Strong written and oral communication.

  • Independent critical thinking and analysis.

  • Strong problem-solving aptitude.

  • Computer skills including the ability toutilizeMicrosoft Office suite (i.e.Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook Teams SharePoint etc.) Adobe Acrobat Pro andexperiment with new software and systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret statutes and legislation.

  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.

  • Attention to detail and deadlines.
