Position Highlights

Spencer Hospital is a rural hospitallocated in northwest Iowa employing over 500 employees. Positions at Spencer Hospital are not affiliated with Avera; however we collaborate to provide services to the communities we serve. Employment offers if accepted are exclusively with Spencer Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for making daily clinical rounds on patients. Performs a physical assessment interviews patients and completes chart review. Develops a clinical plan and documents in progress notes.
  • Communicates the clinical plan and collaborates with nursing staff in carrying out plan.
  • Reviews each patient with the physician and implements the determined plan of care based on discussion. Collaborates with physician to may make joint rounds on patients allowing the physician to instruct the practitioner on precise orders and clinical plan. Collaborates with the other health care providers to ensure a comprehensive care plan.
  • Acts as a liaison between the patient family and health care team throughout hospitalization and post-discharge.
  • Provides point of care education for staff patient and family.
  • Initiates physician consults when notified.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines and performance improvement processes of the Service.
  • Dictates history and physical discharge summaries for patients on Service.
  • Responsible for facilitating and promoting the use of information technology by physicians advanced practice providers and ancillary clinicians in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Responsible for participation in planning implementation training support and ongoing optimization of electronic health record.
  • Responsible for coordinating activities to establish and maintain rapport with the medical community in order to address information technology needs and understanding.
  • Provides support to various medical groups for operational workflow efficiencies and order set efficiency.
  • Educates Providers on standard support and implementation processes serving as an escalation point or facilitator when standard processes are not working. Facilitates regular communication with training team analysts and operational owners to maintain positive working relationships.
  • Partners with analysts and training teams to develop standard workflows and processes for members to solutions.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an NLN accredited school of nursing or equivalent; graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant program required. Masters or doctorate degree required.
  • An active CNP license is required. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa and/or meeting the requirements of Multi-state licensure required. Federal and State DEA certification for the state of IA is required. Completion of Child & Dependent Adult Abuse for Iowa Mandatory Reporters course required for Iowa employees within 90 days of employment and every 5 years thereafter.

Schedule:

  • 72 hours per pay period
  • 12 hour shifts; 7a7p
  • 6-8 weekends per year
  • 1-2 Holidays per year
  • The schedule may fluctuate based upon the needs of the department
