Job Summary

Function & Overview

Reporting to the Principal TheConstruction Teacher will be experienced in work-based learning and willparticipatein continuing professional development opportunities to supportSNPSSprogramming. The Construction Teacher is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff students stakeholders and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching learning and work environment consistent withHodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:nivalues ofGanigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio(Respect and the Good Mind).



Duties

The duties of theConstruction Teacherinclude without limitation:

Planning Developing & Organizing Instruction

  • Being responsible foreffective instruction training and evaluation of the progress of pupils in assigned subjects as per the Ministry of Education curriculumguidelines;
  • Preparing daily teaching plans and outlines as are required by thePrincipalandsubmittingthe plans and outlines to thePrincipaluponrequest;
  • Working with the Principal to develop andutilizeappropriatesupports and other programming to ensure studentsuccess;
  • Establishing clearobjectivesfor all lessons units and projects and communicating thoseobjectivesto students through lessons discussions and demonstrations in assigned subjectareas;
  • Preparing materials and resources for daily classroom activities prior to the start of eachlesson;
  • Utilizing differentiated teaching methods instructional materials and assessments to meet students varying needs andinterests;

Implementing Assessment

  • Reporting to the principal on the progress of pupils upon request and during designated reportingtimes;
  • Ensuring that report cards are fully and properly completed and processedin accordance withthe Ministry of Education Report Card Guidelines Grades9-12;
  • Preparing administering and grading tests and assignments as per the Ministry of Education documentGrowing Success to evaluate students progress and providingtimelyand comprehensive feedback to students andfamilies;

Student Success

  • In coordination with theSNPSSstudent success team the teacheris responsible fordeveloping individualized student academic schedules contributing to the development of Individual Education Plans and ensuring each students plan meets the Ontario Secondary School Diploma and college diplomarequirements;
  • Performingadditionalduties such as those normally associated with the graduation of pupils or being actively involved in informational and student recruitment sessions whenrequested;
  • Conferring with parents or guardians other teachers counselors and administratorstoresolve studentsbehaviouraland academicconcerns.

Classroom Management & Safety

  • Cooperating with the Principal and SNPSSstaff toestablishand maintain consistent disciplinary practices in the school with respect to our school code of conduct and restorative justiceprocedures;
  • Carrying out the supervisory duties assigned to the teacher by the principalincluding in classextracurricular break or lunchtime supervisions and out of classexcursions;
  • Being present in the classroom or teaching area and ensuring that the classroom or teaching area is ready for the reception of pupils at least fifteen minutes before the commencement of classes in the school in the morning and where applicable five minutes before the commencement of classes in the school in theafternoon;
  • Ensuring that all reasonable safety procedures are carried out in courses and activities for which the teacher is responsible including but not limited to all fire safety procedures lockdown procedures shop and machinery safety procedures kitchen safety protocols and all other content specific safetyprocedures;

Community Connections & Professional Development

  • Assistingthe principal inmaintainingclose affiliation with the community including taking part in regular meetings with pupils parents or guardiansandparticipatingin community events whereapplicable;
  • Using technology hands-on activities andHodinǫshǫ:nihhistory culture values contemporary issues community priorities and resources to enrich curriculum andinstruction;
  • Attending all Professional Development sessions throughout the school yeartofulfill Ministry of Education standards in granting credits towardsgraduation;
  • Activelyparticipatingin theSNPSSstaff summer orientation program annually.

General Administration

  • Professionally and astutely supporting the SNPSSPrincipal and staff through activelyparticipatingin annual Ministry of Educationinspections;
  • Maintainingaccurateand complete student records as required by the Ministry of Education and SNPSSadministrativeguidelines;
  • Utilizing the school Student Information System and the Learning Management System tomaintainaccuratestudent attendance andappropriate academicrecords; and
  • Other related duties as.

Qualifications

Education&Experience

  • OCT (Ontario Teaching Certification) in good standing with Intermediate and Senior level qualifications inTechnological Education is considered anasset;
  • Minimum3years experienceworkingandteaching in the field ofwithknowledge ofhealthand safetyregulationscodesandprocedures;
  • Additional Qualifications in Special Educationisconsidered an asset;and
  • Experience using D2L and MicrosoftTEAMS.

Knowledge Skills&Abilities

  • A background in or knowledge of STEM/STEAMPathways;
  • Knowledge of current research and instructional bestpractices;
  • Excellentinstructional leadershipskills;
  • Ageneral and current knowledge ofHodinǫshǫ:nihhistory culture values contemporary issues community priorities andstakeholders;
  • Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on written expression (i.e. faultless spelling and grammar and professional style);
  • Sound interpersonal skills including communication organization negotiation and professionaljudgement;
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage schedules portfolios and timelines tomeet deadlines;
  • Capacity to work both independently and in a team setting demonstratingHodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:nivalues ofGanigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio(Respect and the Good Mind);and
  • Demonstrated familiarity with standard desktop computing programs including spreadsheets word processing and database applications on the Windows 2010 (or later) operating system.

Criminal Record Check

The Teacher will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work atSNPSS and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by August 31 every 2nd year in which they are employed by Six Nations Polytechnic.



Applicants from Six Nations and other Indigenous communities will be given preference to deliver programs and services in a First Nations community.



Job Type: Contract until June 2026
