This March Break we are excited to offer positions for dedicated individuals who can contribute to our vibrant camp environment. ROM Assistants will provide essential 1-on-1 support to campers with disabilities or those requiring additional assistance ensuring an inclusive and enriching camp experience. Our ideal candidates are compassionate and skilled in working with children of various needs including those who are neurodiverse or have physical disabilities such as ADHD ASD learning differences cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

• Before camp starts read the campers profile carefully and chat with their caregivers over the phone. This helps in understanding the campers needs and preferences.
• Each day prepare the necessary support materials to help your camper integrate smoothly into camp activities.
• Actively work to include your camper in the group making sure they feel welcomed and part of the team.
• Pay attention to your campers daily routine including any health care or medication needs.
• During breaks and lunch supervise and support your camper.
• Assist the instructor in adapting games activities and museum explorations to ensure your camper is fully involved and engaged.
• If needed use adaptive equipment responsibly and safely.
• Always show positive behaviour setting a good example for campers to follow.
• Always maintain a friendly and courteous demeanour with both caregivers and children.
• Regularly update caregivers with important information about their childs experiences and progress at camp.

WHAT YOU BRING

• You should have at least one year of experience working with children in a learning environment like a school or camp. Also you should be great at working as part of a team.
• You need to be at least 16 years old by the time you start working with us.
• If youve studied something related to museums like Art Archaeology Life Sciences Earth Science or History thats a big plus.
• Previous experience working with children who have disabilities including physical disabilities or neurodivergence is highly valued.
• If you have coaching or lifeguard certification thats a bonus.
• Being certified in First Aid or CPR is an advantage.

Lastly all applicants must be prepared to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening as its essential for anyone working with children or vulnerable persons. This helps us ensure the safety and well-being of our campers.
