OVERVIEW

ALO is seeking a midlevel employment attorney to support our employment counseling contract and policy needs as we expand in the U.S. and internationally. This position is a great opportunity for an individual interested in working on a broad array of employment issues in a fast-paced growing company.

As Employment Counsel you will play a critical role in advising on all aspects of employment law policy and compliance across our operations. You will work closely with ALOs Director of Employment HR Retail and Payroll teams to ensure that our company remains compliant with local state federal and international labor laws while also addressing a wide range of legal matters related to our workforce.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide day-to-day legal advice on employment law matters including accommodations classification compensation discipline hiring leaves of absence separations and workplace investigations.
• Advise HR and Retail teams on wage and hour compliance including timekeeping overtime meal and rest periods sick time and paid leave.
• Draft revise and update company-wide employment policies agreements notices and communications to ensure alignment with legal requirements and best practices.
• Partner with HR Payroll and People Operations teams to ensure compliant implementation of employment laws policies and programs.
• Monitor changes in U.S. and international employment laws with a focus on key retail markets.
• Support the drafting and implementation of international policies and employment contracts.
• Provide training and guidance to managers on compliance with federal state and local labor laws and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

• J.D. from a top tier law school.
• Active bar membership in California.
• 3-5 years of experience in employment law at a top law firm and/or company.
• Strong working knowledge of U.S. federal wage and hour laws across several jurisdictions with deep expertise in California employment law.
• Practical business-minded approach with the ability to provide clear actionable guidance in a fast-paced setting.
• Ability to balance many projects simultaneously and complete tasks accurately on schedule and with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience supporting an international workforce. Retail hospitality or another consumer-facing environment experience is preferred.

The base salary range for this position is $175000-$225000 per year which represents the current range for the base salary for this exempt position. Please note that actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location experience and performance. As such on occasion and when applicable there is the possibility that the final agreed-upon base salary may be outside of the upper end of the range. Please also note the range listed is just one component of the companys total rewards package for exempt employees. Other rewards may include performance bonuses long term incentives a PTO policy and many other progressive benefits.
