Working 36.5 hours per week

We are looking for a Cemetery Maintenance Operative to join our bereavement services team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to work that makes a real difference to the people and communities we serve. You will provide a range of maintenance services to the citys cemeteries and crematoria ensuring they are safe and respectful places for the bereaved to visit.

What youll do

  • Emptying refuse and dog waste bins and transferring collections to the bulk collection facility
  • Removing and disposing of floral displays and memorial items where appropriate
  • Clearing and maintaining paths and other hard-standing areas including winter duties
  • Identifying and carrying out ground levelling seeding and turfing
  • Unlocking and locking cemetery and crematoria sites in line with seasonal opening hours including weekends
  • Completing general repairs and maintenance tasks appropriate to the grade
  • Maintaining accurate records such as worksheets timesheets and vehicle checklists
  • Identifying logging and reporting safety hazards and issues affecting site appearance
  • Working flexibly both independently and as part of a team to meet service needs
  • Following all Council policies and procedures including Health & Safety and Equal Opportunities
  • Carrying out other duties commensurate with the role as required by Team Leaders or senior management
  • Travel between sites sometimes at short notice

What youll need

  • A full driving license for transportation and maintenance duties
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues supervisors and members of the public in a respectful manner
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
  • To possess physical stamina and be able to lift heavy objects
  • Able to follow safety procedures for equipment and have an awareness of health and safety requirements
  • To be comfortable completing basic paperwork with accuracy
  • To assist visitors / service users being sensitive to the needs of people that are bereaved or distressed
