Position Title: Lower School Associate Teacher
Reports to: Lower School Division Director
Role Duration: 10 months full time at an hourly rate of compensation
School Day: 7:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. with the occasional faculty meeting from 3:45pm to 4:45pm
Position Summary:
Ashley Hall School seeks a collaborative and student-centered Lower School Associate teacher who supports a team of Lead Teachers in delivering engaging inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). Working closely with classroom teachers the Associate Teacher helps create a nurturing inclusive learning environment that supports students academic social and emotional development. This role assists with small-group instruction classroom organization assessment support and daily routines while fostering curiosity independence and a love of learning. The successful candidate demonstrates flexibility strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to supporting students and colleagues in a dynamic team-oriented Lower School setting.

building relationships with each child and their family
providing a positive learning environment for children
co-creating opportunities for growth of the whole child
using positive guidance techniques
co-teaching problem-solving and conflict resolution
assessing students learning and documenting it through digital media and portfolios
co-planning curriculum to be age stage and individually appropriate
working with a Lead instructor to provide differentiated learning
co-designing and delivering a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy that engages and honors all learners and embraces diverse perspectives
co-preparing documentation for students and families
partnering with parents about their childs progress
maintaining a clean and orderly classroom common areas and playground
Physical Demands
While reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role this work involves approximately 50% standing/moving about the classroom and 50% bending and lifting. The ability to lift up to 40 pounds stand for periods of time sit on the floor and be active for up to 6 hours/day is required.
Education Preferred:
Associates Degree in a related field required a Bachelors Degree preferred
experience in a school setting especially an independent school
A commitment to the teaching field
Familiarity or experience teaching in a Reggio Emilia Program or an openness to learning about Reggio Emilia
A commitment to differentiated learning and a strong pedagogical approach to supporting diverse learners
A commitment to a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy to engage and honor all learners and embrace diverse perspectives
FLSA Status: Academic-Hourly-Non-Exempt
Since its founding in 1909 Ashley Hall has empowered young women to think critically act ethically and embrace their world with confidence. The School serves girls kindergarten through grade 12 (and is co-ed in its Early School ages 2 to 5 years). Ashley Hall provides a dynamic education grounded in a Reggio approach in its early School and an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in its Lower School. It is currently in the strategic phase of a Middle Years Programme candidacy with the intention of pursuing Diploma Programme candidacy thereafter.
