Research Assistant (Polymer Chemistry Emulsion Formulation for Green Pesticide Delivery) at SDU in Odense

The Department of Physics Chemistry and Pharmacyat the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) Odense invites applications for a Research Assistant position in the field of polymer-based green pesticides. The position is available in the research group of Dr Changzhu Wu ().

About the research group and project
The Wu group conducts interdisciplinary research at the interface of polymer chemistry enzyme catalysis and molecular design with the aim of developing industrially relevant catalytic and functional material systems.

The position is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) under the Synergy Grant framework as part of the project: From Lab to Field: The Promise of Biopolymer Emulsions in Crafting the Next-Generation of Eco-friendly Efficient Pesticides. The overall goal is to develop next-generation eco-friendly and efficient pesticide delivery systems by synthesizing biopolymers (from plant-oil-derived building blocks) and formulating them into adhesive and stable emulsions that improve retention and performance under field-relevant conditions.

The Wu group offers strong expertise in polymer synthesis and emulsion engineering and works closely with national and international collaborators. The group interacts with relevant SDU facilities and partners (e.g. SDU platforms and interdisciplinary environments) and collaborates with international research groups including partners in Germany on polymer design and catalytic concepts.

Tasks and responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the project primarily through work on:

• Synthesis and characterization of plant-oil-derived monomers and biopolymers
• Design formulation and optimization of pesticide emulsion systems
• Characterization of emulsion stability and key physicochemical parameters relevant to delivery and adhesion
• Documentation of results and contribution to manuscripts reports and project meetings

Qualifications
We are seeking an enthusiastic ambitious and independent candidate with a strong background relevant to the project. The ideal candidate has:

• A Masters or PhD degree in Chemistry Polymer Chemistry Supramolecular Chemistry or a closely related discipline
• Strong practical experience in organic synthesis and/or polymer synthesis/design
• A documented publication record relevant to the field (commensurate with career stage)
• Good interpersonal and communication skills in English and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team
  Experience with polymer synthesis and emulsion formulation/colloid science is an advantage.

Appointment as a Research Assistant is for approximately two years; an extension may be possible. Employment ends automatically at the end of the appointment period. The position holder is not allowed to have other paid employment during the employment period.
