Job Duties:

The School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is seeking applicants for the Associate Dean position with a start date of July 1 2026.

The SOE Associate Dean holds a 12-month administrative appointment and reports directly to the SOE Dean where they work collaboratively across campus to further the school mission by assisting programs in meeting learning outcomes that support student success. As a key member of the Deans leadership team the Associate Dean is active in the schools distributive leadership processes. A successful candidate will be excited about supporting the Dean in managing all academic and curriculum matters in collaboration with the department chairs and program directors across the SOE. The primary responsibilities include leading the annual accreditation; curriculum and assessment for all programs; enrollment management; grant review and approval; as well as supporting faculty staff and students.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Leads special initiatives and/or academic programs that require senior leadership attention with respect to program design planning coordination and interaction with internal and external stakeholders
  • May exercise supervisory authority including hiring transferring suspending promoting managing conduct and performance discharging assigning rewarding disciplining and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • Builds consensus and develops collegial collaborative working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders partners with administrative and academic departments to support initiatives and gathers input from key stakeholders to support recommendations
  • Advises and collaborates with the Dean Assistant Deans and/or Office of the Provost on critical issues represents the functional area of supervision at appropriate meetings and events as requested; and serves on and/or leads various program and/or university committees as directed to address issues
  • Serves on various university review committees working with a wide range of constituencies including the Faculty Senate Deans and Associate Deans General Counsel and University Leadership
  • Directs on-going assessment and continuous improvement of academic programs and services by guiding the establishment of annual goals ensuring progress towards goals is met articulating challenges and reporting on annual outcomes and achievements for programs/services
  • Ensures initiatives are effectively using program assessment and data analysis to improve initiatives and strategies identifies opportunities for improvement and makes recommendations to the Dean for approval
  • Provides leadership for one or more academic programs by establishing strategic direction and setting priorities that align with the academic directives of the Dean and ensures units effectively carry out duties in a way that best supports the universitys initiatives strategic direction and academic mission; provides direct supervision of department/program leadership and monitors compliance with laws regulations university policies and procedures and relevant contractual obligations

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited university.
  • A proven record of teaching and scholarship sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure in one of the departments of the SOE/SOE-affiliated programs.
  • An educator license in PK-12 administrative pupil services area (does not need to be current).
  • A strong record of relevant progressively responsible administrative and management experience.
  • Familiarity and experience with current academic assessment and accreditation practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with grant procurement and/or management.
  • Experience supporting faculty growth through faculty development and mentoring
  • Experience with graduate programs.
  • Evidence of successful advising and ability to support students.
  • Experience in department chair role.
