Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Genomics Laboratory Supervisorin the Molecular Diagnostics Lab consultation with the Laboratory Manager and Medical Directors the Molecular Genomic Supervisor is responsible for all the technical aspects of the Molecular Diagnostics laboratory. Responsibilities include supervision of day-to-day operations oversight of personnel implementation of new procedures methods and instruments and ensuring all training accreditation and competency standards are met.

This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversees day-to-day operations of the Molecular Diagnostic department and provides overall direction and assistance to testing personnel.
  • Works with team to identify and resolve problems.
  • Ensures turnaround time goals and quality metrics are consistently met.
  • Oversees department staffing schedules and addresses shortages as required.
  • Maintains inventory to meet operational needs.
  • Interacts with internal and external customers to ensure proper sample handling reporting and resolution of questions and concerns.
  • Serves as a communication liaison between internal and external entities. Ensures that staff and leadership team are getting timely and appropriate information.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements as well as institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participates in ongoing laboratory accreditation and inspection preparation.
  • Review of quality control maintenance and quality assurance documentation.
  • Updates and maintains policies and procedures training and competency records and proficiency testing program.
  • Trains and assists team members in the proficient and safe use of equipment in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Oversees team competencies and addresses any performance gaps.
  • Participates in hiring new team members and provides individual performance feedback as necessary.
  • Engages in coaching and management of annual performance appraisals.
  • Ensures employees receive ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Aligns the team members goals with the organization PRIDE values
  • Plans and supports employee engagement activities.
  • Acts as lead in the development evaluation and implementation of new clinical laboratory procedures assay validation equipment interface and processes.
  • Ensures projects are on-track and completed within assigned timeframe and communication of test changes occurs.
  • Oversee workflow of research testing and projects.
  • Perform testing as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years prior molecular laboratory experience; minimum of one year of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in biology or other laboratory science (medical technology biochemistry chemistry or related scientific field).
  • Cytogenetics certification (or eligibility) through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Must satisfy CLIA 88 qualifications for high complexity testing.
  • Ability to write laboratory procedures and policies.
  • Ability to train supervise and provide leadership in a team-oriented management structure.
  • Knowledge and ability to use automated and conventional laboratory instrumentation.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of word processing spreadsheet and laboratory/hospital information systems. Proven ability to use computers for data entry retrieval and statistical analysis.
  • Able to handle large volumes of work within narrow timeframes and remain organized with a precise attention to detail.

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
