The Faculty of Continuing Education and Extensions at Mount Royal University (MRU) invites applications from thoseinterested in sharing their enthusiasm and expertise with funeral students as an online contract instructor.
MRU has provided continuing education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 60 years. We offer more than 1000 courses and 100 certificate and diploma programs and have more than 50000 course registrations each year. Our courses cover a wide range of sectors including but not limited to social services business and health. These courses are offered in a variety of formats on campus online in the workplace and in the community.
About the Role
Instructors are contracted on a per course basis to teach in Mount Royal Universitys Funeral Service Education programs. Visit our website for program details at department is seeking an instructorwith the ability to teach the following course:
Name of the Course:Introduction to Funeral Service (online)
- March 9 - 18 2026 (online) overall course dates
- Includes 4 mandatory virtual discussions held 7:30 - 9:00 pm on March 10 12 15 & 17 2026
Course Description:This course will provide you with an introduction to the funeral service profession. It will introduce you to roles and responsibilities of funeral professionals. Topics including the history of funeral service burial and cremation purpose and value of the funeral service and licensing requirements in Alberta will be explored.
Responsibilities
Instruction:
- Course delivery including
- Preparation of course outline
- Lesson preparation
- Facilitate online course delivery through D2L using approved curriculum and learning materials
- Review and revision of course assessments
Administration:
- Marking and submission of course grades
- Maintain regular contact with Funeral Services program administrative team
- Participate in meetings and adhere to program policies and deadlines
Qualifications
- Teaching experience in adult education or training; special consideration will be given to applicants with experience in online course facilitation and engaging students in a virtual environment
- Licensed funeral professional; 3 -5 years of work experience in a funeral home
- Excellent presentation facilitation written and oral communication skills with a track record for professionalism and diplomacy
- Strong organizational and time management skills; aptitude for problem-solving and attention to detail
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality regarding students
- Proficiency in D2L Learning Management System and Google Applications is an asset
