Who Are We Looking For
The Engineering team is looking for a Data Engineer who can confidently contribute across our reporting and data stack and is ready to take on increasing ownership over time. You will work closely with senior engineers but you will also drive your own projects contribute to technical decisions and help improve our data platform.

- Have solid hands-on experience with data engineering patterns and tools
- Can balance detail-oriented implementation work with an eye toward long-term scalability and maintainability
- Care deeply about the quality reliability and impact of the systems you build
You will collaborate with more senior engineers on architecture and design but you should be comfortable proposing solutions estimating work and seeing projects through from design to production.
What Will You Be Doing
You may:
- Design build and maintain reliable data pipelines and workflows that support reporting and analytics use cases
- Work with large complex data sets to meet business requirements improve data quality and ensure data is accurate and timely
- Develop and optimize infrastructure for extracting loading and transforming data from a variety of sources
- Build and enhance analytics tools and data models that power reporting and provide actionable insights into key business metrics
- Collaborate with stakeholders on the Product Operations and Executive teams to understand their data needs and deliver solutions that meet those needs
- Support production systems including monitoring troubleshooting incident response and continuous improvement of performance and reliability
- Contribute to team practices including code reviews documentation and occasionally helping more junior teammates
Requirements
- 35 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a closely related data-focused engineering role
- Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases
- Hands-on experience building and optimizing cloud data pipelines (ETL/ELT)
- Experience building processes that support data transformation data modeling metadata management and dependency/workload management
- Experience with AWS cloud services such as EMR S3 Glue SES SNS/SQS or EC2 (or similar services on another cloud provider) is preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical skills and experience working with unstructured or semi-structured data
- Working knowledge of message queuing stream processing and highly scalable data stores
- Experience working with and supporting cross-functional teams
- Python programming experience especially in data engineering contexts
- Experience with Snowflake or another modern cloud data warehouse
- Experience with ETL/ELT and data transformation tools such as Fivetran dbt etc.
- Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Sigma Tableau Metabase Looker etc.
- A Computer Science or related technical degree or equivalent practical experience
This role will be based in either the New York City Austin King of Prussia or Phoenix office and will be part of Vestwells hybrid in-office operation.
The expected base salary range for this position is $115K - $130K base. This position is eligible to participate in the Company Bonus Pool and is eligible to receive new hire equity in the Company. Please note that salary bands are based on NY and other similar metro areas and may differ based on where the role is ultimately hired.
