Allied Health Assistant Casual

Your role at St John of God Geelong Hospital

We are currently seeking a qualified Allied Health Assistant to join our casual team; in this role you will be engaged for weekday and weekend shifts.

The Allied Health Assistant will be required to provide clinical and administrative support to physiotherapists occupational therapists other therapy and nursing staff as required.

The Position

• Provide clinical assistance to the physiotherapists occupational therapists nursing and other health care professionals as required.

• Actively monitor the environment and implement safe work practices to ensure patient and staff safety.

• Participate in staff education programs as required.

• Involvement with research as appropriate.

• Comply with hospital and department policies and procedures.

• Supervise and assist patients in exercise routines gait activities and daily living activities as directed by the treating allied health care professional.

• Assist with patient treatment as required.

• Assist with patient transfers dressing and showering in hydrotherapy (if applicable).

• Identify client circumstances that need additional input from the Allied Health Professional and communicate this in clinical handover.

• Be aware of contraindications precautions and hazards relating to specific patient management.

• Ensure that infection control procedures are strictly adhered to in all areas.

• Report all hazards regarding patients promptly to the treating allied health caregiver or Nurse Unit Manager.

• Assist with patient portering as required.

• Document client progress and maintain clinical documentation as required.

• Ensure adequate levels of all stock items are maintained.

• Provide administrative support to department staff as requested.

• Provide administrative support to hospital staff as requested by Department Manager

You will have a Certificate III Allied Health Assistance or equivalent with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills. You will demonstrate appropriate skills and knowledge to fulfill the requirements as an Allied Health Assistant.

To succeed you will have well developed organisational skills with an ability to manage your own workflow and cope and competing demands demonstrating a high level of personal resilience.

Ideally you will have previous experience working within a health care setting and previous experience leading patients/clients with exercise programs

We can offer:

• Salary $38.89 to $39.74 per hour (includes casual loading) plus 12% superannuation

• Casual position available
