PROCUREMENT ENGINEER – ELECTRICAL / INSTRUMENTATION ROLE PURPOSE: Jobs at this level are engaged in process of material procurement & control. Depending on the scale & scope of the work individuals may specialize in one or more aspects of the procurement/ logistics/ and material control process. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES • Prepare all documentation at the project’s outset to develop a comprehensive list of material requirements. • Prepare information on procurement cycles to planning department to facilitate the development and issue of the Materials Schedule. • Identify and recommend pre-qualification of suppliers so that a range of suitably competent source of supply are available • Prepare materials purchase requisitions as assigned by relevant supervisor • Seek quotations from local & international suppliers negotiating prices where appropriate. • Carry out technical & commercial evaluation of bids from suppliers to ensure that specifications are met. • Prepare necessary purchase orders and related documents so that materials can be acquired in accordance with requirements. • Expedite purchase order progress ensuring that all requirements are met so that materials and • vendor documents are delivered to site on or before contractual delivery dates. • Carry out or arrange for the technical and quality inspection of materials supplied • Liaise with relevant supervisors other departments and with external parties e.g. clients • suppliers & shippers to ensure efficient & timely receipt of required materials. • Processing of claims to supplement shortage or to receive compensation for unsatisfactory materials. • Control the stores service on site ensuring that systems are in place so that only those authorized by site management can draw supplies SKILLS KNOWLEDGE; QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE • MANDATORY - Engineering Degree in Electrical / Instrumentation. • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in similar role is MANDATORY • Exposure to engineering specifications and ability to write technical specifications • Basic accounting and commercial knowledge • Knowledge of Financial & Banking terms & procedures • Computer Literate • Knowledge of International Commercial Terms • Profit orientation and cost conscientiousness
