Reports To: Maintenance Manager Service Center


Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 Days 12 Month / 8 hours per day


Salary Schedule: This is a full-time negotiated position. Salary grade 50E


Position Purpose: An electrician will maintain and repair facility electrical distribution systems lighting and
equipment from the interface with the power company service. Will maintain and repair electrical equipment exterior
to the facility including pumps timers lighting (security stadium and parking lot) lighting controls and electric
scoreboards. Will plan layout and install fixtures distribution systems and equipment as part of limited-scale
remodeling projects. Will analyze working drawings of new construction for adherence to district specifications and
standards. This individual will work in a service-oriented environment will routinely be required to solve problems
establish priorities and plan for completion of small-scale jobs. Duty may include evening shift assignment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must have a current Journeymans Electrical License recognized by the City of Omaha and/or the State of Nebraska.
  • Must have a minimum of five years full time experience as a journeyman electrician.
  • Have the ability to perform installations and repairs of electrical equipment systems circuits and fixturessuch as switches and circuitry boxes according to the electrical code.
  • Must have general knowledge of various types of electrical equipment to include ohm and amperage meters text equipment general hand tools and power tools.
  • Must have valid Nebraska drivers license and a safe driving record.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of personal computer Microsoft Office software including electronic workorder software.
  • Must meet insurability requirements of the school districts insurance carrier.
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.
  • Knowledge of OPSs mission purpose goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Will perform preventive maintenance tasks such as: cleaning and tightening of electrical connections in panel boxes control centers and disconnects; meg-ohming of motors; balancing of ampere draw on electricmotor and panels; and checking outlets for proper wiring and grounding.
  • Will replace ballasts in fluorescent high-pressure sodium mercury vapor LED and metal halide fixtures.
  • Will repair or replace electric switches outlets relays contractors circuit breakers panels switch geargears wiring light fixtures (including exit emergency and warning lights) and athletic stadium parking lotand security lighting systems.
  • Will diagnose and repair problems in scoreboards and stage lighting and in associated controls.
  • Will plan lay out and install circuits fixtures and equipment to electrical codes as part of limited-scaleremodeling projects.
  • Will troubleshoot test and repair all electrical equipment and components to ensure compatibility and safetyto each installation.
  • Use proper test equipment to detect hazards and needs for adjustments relocation or replacement ofelectrical equipment.
  • Obtain and set up scaffolds ladders or operate aerial lifts as needed to perform electrical work in multi-story requirements. Perform electrical work in about and under each campus as necessary.
  • Maintain accountability of tools equipment and supplies assigned to the crew.
  • Take initiative in identifying and resolving various repair problems to ensure proper job completion.
  • Maintainaccurate records for proper completion of work orders (such as to labor and material costs).
  • Will do trade-related tasks; install all electrical conduits; pull boxes and necessary systems using goodworkmanship and proper tools and equipment as assigned by the Electrical Shop foreman or MaintenanceManager.
  • Communicate courteously and effectively with the public and with school personnel.
  • Will maintain positive working relationships with fellow employees.
  • Enter time and materials and technician comments along with other information into a computerized workorder system.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance and work performance.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment: This position requires the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers copiers scanners and fax machine. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use.

Travel: Local travel will be required.


Physical and Mental Demands Work Hazards:

  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
  • Must have organization time management communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Work in an office environment school buildings and warehouse setting.
  • Ability to lift items weighing a minimum of 70 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders with tools and equipment weighing a minimum of 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work at heights such as the tops of athletic stadium lighting poles.
  • Must have the ability to work in physically constricted areas.
  • Have the specific vision abilities required by this job which include close vision distance vision color visionand the ability to adjust focus.
  • Selected applicant must pass a functional test of physical abilities. Testing will be arranged by the schooldistrict.

Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
  • Works under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.
  • Works with a diverse population including multiple nationalities and cultures requiring the ability to handle allsituations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with allcustomers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and providequick responsive customer service.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

  • In order for schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and workall scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or buildingadministrator.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of OmahaPublic Schools and is appropriate for their position.
  • Regular attendance is important.

Terms of Employment


This position is treated as a full-time non-exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed
by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education
policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time and the Teacher Contract. If your position is
represented by a collective bargaining representative then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated
agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

  • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).
