About the role
This position is responsible for ensuring that the key internal compliance and governance processes of Council run efficiently and effectively.
This position is accountable for the management of Councils delegations and legislative compliance obligations Councils GIPA and Privacy responsibilities and deliver major governance related projects. The Senior Governance and GIPA Officer will lead a team of Governance and GIPA Officers.
On a daily basis you will:
Maintain frameworks delegations and statutory obligations to support effective Council governance.
Review align and enhance governance policies and procedures providing expert advice where needed.
Manage organisationwide training and maintain key governance systems databases registers and publicly available information.
Advise on GIPA PPIP and other governance matters; manage enquiries investigations and liaison with external bodies (e.g. Office of Local Government NSW Ombudsman).
Lead the Governance and GIPA Team engage stakeholders apply risk management frameworks and oversee large-scale governance projects.
About You
The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience (5 years) in governance management in local government or equivalent experience.
You will also bring:
Degree qualifications in business policy local government discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience.
Extensive knowledge of Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 and other legislation relating to the provision and protection of information.
Ability to interpret and determine legislative impacts in relation to corporate governance responsibilities.
Demonstrated high level communication skills (verbal and written)
Proven knowledge and management of delegations and processes and governance policies and procedures.
Experience in preparing reports policies and correspondence in a local government context.
