The school works closely with families external agencies and local services to ensure that every child receives the right support at the right time. Due to increasing pastoral and behavioural needs within EYFS and KS1 the school is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their team.
As a Behaviour Mentor you will work closely with children in Nursery Reception and Key Stage 1 who require additional emotional and behavioural support. Many pupils may present with SEMH needs ASD ADHD attachment difficulties or communication challenges.
Your role will be to help pupils regulate their emotions develop positive coping strategies and engage successfully in learning. You will act as a consistent trusted adult supporting children both in and out of the classroom.
Provide 1:1 and small group behavioural and emotional support
Support pupils with emotional regulation transitions and routines
Implement behaviour support plans and positive behaviour strategies
Work closely with class teachers EYFS practitioners and the SENCO
Support children during unstructured times (playtime lunch transitions)
Use play-based and therapeutic approaches to support behaviour
Monitor progress and contribute to review meetings
Build strong relationships with parents and carers
Support safeguarding and child protection procedures
Maintain accurate records and observations
The successful candidate will be patient calm and emotionally resilient with a genuine passion for supporting young children. Experience working within a Primary Nursery or EYFS setting is highly desirable.
You should have:
Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour or SEND
A strong understanding of early childhood development
Knowledge of SEMH trauma-informed practice or attachment theory
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
The ability to remain calm under pressure
A positive proactive approach to behaviour management
Relevant qualifications in childcare education psychology youth work or mental health are advantageous but not essential.
