This well-established and inclusive Primary and Nursery School located in the London Borough of Brent serves a diverse and vibrant local community. The school is deeply committed to early intervention recognising that positive behaviour emotional wellbeing and strong relationships are fundamental to a childs success in education. Leaders place high importance on pastoral care emotional literacy and creating a calm structured learning environment where all children feel safe and supported.
The school has a growing number of pupils across Nursery Reception and Key Stage 1 who require additional behavioural and emotional support. As a result the leadership team is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Behaviour Mentor to work closely with young children who may struggle with emotional regulation social interaction or behaviour for learning.
The Behaviour Mentor will play a key role in supporting pupils with behavioural emotional and social needs within the Early Years and Primary setting. Many children supported in this role may present with SEMH needs ASD ADHD speech and language difficulties or attachment-related behaviours.
You will work as a consistent trusted adult helping pupils to understand their emotions manage behaviour positively and engage successfully with learning and routines. This role is both classroom-based and intervention-focused requiring patience resilience and a child-centred approach.
Provide targeted 1:1 behavioural and emotional support for pupils
Deliver small group interventions focusing on emotional regulation and social skills
Support pupils within Nursery and classroom settings
Assist children during transitions playtimes and lunchtime periods
Implement behaviour support plans and positive behaviour strategies
Use play-based restorative and trauma-informed approaches
Work closely with teachers EYFS staff and the SENCO
Observe assess and monitor pupil progress
Record observations and contribute to review meetings
Build positive and trusting relationships with parents and carers
Support safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times
The successful candidate will be calm nurturing and emotionally resilient with a genuine passion for supporting young children. You should be confident working with children who display challenging behaviour and understand that behaviour is a form of communication.
The ideal Behaviour Mentor will have:
Experience working with children in a Primary Nursery or EYFS setting
Knowledge of SEMH SEND and early childhood development
A consistent and positive approach to behaviour management
Strong communication and teamwork skills
The ability to remain calm in emotionally challenging situations
A proactive and reflective attitude
Qualifications in childcare education psychology youth work or mental health are beneficial but not essential.
